I cancelled my giving due to the situation in India on 3/14 and requested a refund.  What is the refund process? Is it refunded back to my account or is a check mailed?   How long does this process take?
Thanks

Hi Kelly! We typically refund in the same way that you made the donation. In other words, if you made the donation on a credit card, it will be put back on your credit card. Regrettably, due to high volumes of processing right now we are at about four weeks for refunds.

Hi Stephen. As you know with the situation in India, these sponsors have no choice but to stop sponsoring their child.
Their funds were held for several months in the hope of being released to India. Since that didn't happen they're asking Compassuon to return the funds to them. That is totally their right. Many others have chosen to sponsor a different child or to donate to a fund. That's completely fine too. Maybe some need time to grieve before deciding how to allocate the funds and prefer receive a refund. Some just aren't ready to sponsor again yet. We shouldn't try to make anyone feel bad for how they choose to handle their funds in a difficult time like this.

I didn't think a cash refund was wise just because those donations were listed on my 2016 giving statement which I used to deduct from my taxes.  I really hope people are taking that into account.  Other than that, I agree with you wholeheartedly, it's their right to do as they wish....I do think though that maybe some more disclosure about how long the cash refund would take would have helped a lot of people who are impatient about it.

I know that every one has a choice to do what ever they want with the money in the account but I would rather help Compassion end poverty and let them use the money for whatever they need it for

You might want to think about the fact that there may be circumstances beyond their control for some people. Like with us - my wife just lost her job in Feb. We had 4 sponsored India kids. We had the money being held applied to 2 of our other sponsored kids so that they are paid thru until they finish the program. Without taking those 6 kids off of our monthly payment, we would have to drop more than just a few kids. We still may have to drop some, but we're trying this first, to see if we can get by this way. You just don't know what might be going on with some people that causes them to make the decision for a refund., so perhaps some grace towards them is in order.
