when i send a letter and stickers to my sponsored child it is often 2 1/2 months before i hear from her. and then when she responds i dont know if she got my last letter or the stickers because she doesnt say anything about them . Her letters do not include any answers to things i had asked in my last letter. It seems like each letter i get is like a first letter.Could this be clarified for me?
Thank you.

I'm sori about your frustration. I would be too. Isn't there an administrator we can contact regarding this site to ensure the child we are sponsoring is doing well. Maybe an adult supervisor, who can proofread letters, so the child learns how to write and respond properly to letters.

There are suggestions in the blog posts about children not answering questions, and explaining the time it takes for letters to get there and back.  It's usually 2 - 3 months for a letter to get there, and 2 - 3 months for a letters to get back.  It could be a case where the child takes the letter home, and then when letter writing day comes, there is no letter to answer, or they might be writing their letters in a group setting with a suggested outline.  Sometimes this happens with the younger kids, and then later on when they get older, you will find you get letters with more personality.  It also varies by kid, and  by project, some kids will never be good writers, and some projects don't get as personal with answers as others do.

Alexis, it is the weekend, and the two ladies that work with Compassion aren't working right now.  We are very very fortunate to have these two employees who take the time to work with many sponsors to get us individualized answers.  Believe me, you aren't going to find many sponsorship programs that will go to the length that these two ladies do.  I am sure they will answer the above question as they do all questions on this site early next week.

I am so sorry that you have waited so long for a relationship to develop between you and your child. I can imagine that this has caused a little frustration and concern for her. :( As others have mentioned, it is important to keep in mind that letters take two to three months to go back and forth and that your child may not have your last letter in hand when she was scheduled to sit down and write another letter back to you. However, I will say that it looks like you have been sponsoring Andrea for a few years now and you send letters to her a few times a year. Her last letter was just sent earlier this month. I know it is frustrating to continue sending letters when you do not feel like you are getting much interaction back. Please know that your letters make a huge difference to your child, whether or not she is able to communicate that clearly to you.

Andrea lives in a tough part of Honduras (HO239) where many children live on the streets because they were abandoned by their parents. Andrea herself has a single mom, and her father is deceased. Her mom works very hard as a maid to care for Andrea and her brother and sister and may not be able to spend a whole lot of time with her kids. I imagine that your presence in her life is almost like a second mom. You may be one of the only adults taking the role of a caring mentor in her life. I can guarantee that she cherishes your letters and may even read and re-read your letters on a regular basis. Each letter you write makes a difference!

Have you ever tried underlining or highlighting your questions so that her tutors can make sure she responds to them in her next letter? If you have asked Andrea specific highlighted questions, and you are still not seeing a response, let me know. I will ask her tutors to work extra closely with her to make sure we are providing quality letters for you.

Also, I wrote a blog post a while back on the subject of letters that might be helpful too.
