We
received a very nice letter from Harouna Nandnaba (BF031600279) yesterday, July 18, for which we are grateful.  But it came with an all-too-familiar photo, a duplicate of one we received in December.  Disconcerting.

In the letter, Harouna thanks us for a gift but makes no mention of what was purchased.  The photo is the exact same one sent to us in December.  The tint is a tad different and someone added a flowery border to it this time, but when I put both photos side by side, there is no doubt whatsoever it is the same photo in every detail.

We don't know which gift he means.  We don't have any idea why they would send us the same photo again, four months later.  Maybe the following summary will assist you in making some sense of this for us.

We sent a $75 family gift 8/8/2016, a $25 birthday gift 9/26/2016, and a $100 family gift 9/28/2016 to give as much as we could early on in the sponsorship. December 4, we received a very nice letter and photo, thrilling our hearts to know he and the family were able to get a lot of food and clothes with the money.  Prior to April 20 of this year, we sent a family gift and child gift together for a total of more than $100. (I can't look up the exact date and amount online due to glitches in system).  Now in July, we receive a thank-you for "the gift" and a copy of the December photo.

We had assumed the December letter and photo was in reference to the August and September gifts.  We weren't expecting a thank-you and photo for the April gifts this soon, but since it has been 3 months, we thought it possible.  If so, we should have received a new photo and some indication how they were able to use the April money.  We like sharing in their joy and knowing we're helping him and his family.

Which gift is being referenced in the July letter, and why did they send us the December photo, albeit with a floral border face-lift?  Please can you solve this mystery for us?

Thank you in advance for all your help. --Kathleen Young

Maybe you can pose those 2 photos so, we can compare and see if they are from the same gift;)

Hey Mitchel and Kathleen! Oh no, I am so sorry that the letter you received didn't mention what Harouna received with the gift you sent in late September and that the gift photo was the same one for the gift you sent in August. I do agree that they are the same and am sending an inquiry to get this fixed for you. Both large family gifts you sent should have their own separate thank you letters and photos since they were sent at different times. The gift that is referenced in your July letter should be the gift from September. I do see that you sent a gift on April 10 of $100 as well, but enough time has not passed for us to have received that thank you letter and photo back already. It will take between six and eight weeks for us to receive word back from the country office in Burkina Faso regarding the correct gift photo for the July letter. We will be in contact with you as soon as we have received it, and I will also ask them for a list of what they purchased with the gift :).

Hi, Sarah

If you can confirm April amounts for Harouna and his family total $170 in your system and ask why same photo sent a second time, that will clear up our confusion and nothing else is needed.  (April should show a $150 family gift and $20 child gift sent together.  I looked it up in my credit card account history because it's invisible in my Compassion account's giving history.)

We were disturbed to think he was referring to the April gifts and yet photo was same as Dec.  That doesn't seem to be the case since it's early for a response to April's gifts.  Maybe he was just being kind to thank us again for the things he and his family received in the fall, and the reason the photo was duplicated is because it was the one that showed those things.  If so, fine--just very confusing.  If, instead, he is referring only to his birthday gift last fall, a photo isn't due for that since it was $25.  Again, just confusing.  Can you ask the country office if the December photo included both August and September gifts, as I am thinking that it does?

By the way, I'm noticing more letters arriving sooner after the children send them.  Thrilling!!

Keep up the good work.  We appreciate you.

Mitchel and Kathleen, I can confirm that $170 for family gifts was sent to Harouna in April. It's listed under your account in our system. We will get it all sorted out for you. I did make sure to ask if the gifts had been combined for August and September, and I also told them to send a second photo and a list of what was purchased with the September gift if the gifts were not combined. We will follow up with you as soon as we have the response back! I am SO glad the letters are arriving faster for you. I love that too :). Blessings! Have a wonderful weekend!
