My family has been sponsoring a girl in Kenya for a few years now.  We recently received a letter from her, but we noticed that it sounded familiar.  It turns out to be the same letter that we received two years earlier, just written again. It's almost word for word, including telling us the same score on a recent exam and that shes graduating to grade eight (both letters).  This is very concerning, almost fraudulent really.  I'd really like to know why this would be!

Hello, Matt! I also responded to your Facebook message about this matter, but once again, I sincerely apologize for this! Would you please send us the dates on the two letters in question? We would be happy to look into this for you!

I am unfortunately having a similar problem.  Most of the letters sound nearly identical.  Additionally, one of the children we sponsor sends the same drawing of a flower on several occasions.  I haven't saved the letters to prove my suspicions; however, it just doesn't feel right.  I am praying about my decision, but after several years of support, I may part ways.

I understand what you are saying.  I have a child whose letters don't vary by much (opening remarks, comments on her doing well, current weather), and I've been getting the same flower with minor variations for most of the 13 years (with the occasional picture of a leaf).  However, I had the opportunity to meet her several years ago.  She was extremely sweet and appreciative, and I was blown away by the quality of the records kept by her center on every letter and financial transaction between us.  I have come to the conclusion that she is sincere, but perhaps just not wildly creative.  Every once in a while I get a special unexpected sentence in a letter.  The rest of the time I just read between the lines and know that the gratitude and contentment is there.  I also see the transition from what she bought with extra funds earlier in the sponsorship vs. now, suggesting they have a better quality of life.  I know this doesn't improve the experience for you, but hopefully what I've witnessed is at least reassuring.

One more comment -- my child is due to graduate soon, and has made a few comments over time expressing concern for the other children in her center. Though she isn't going to be a doctor or an engineer, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if she ends up volunteering at her center one day!  Her simple ambitions may have a huge impact through those she impacts by serving...

Jennifer, that's such an awesome testimony. Thanks so much for sharing. :) cariboucamaro, I'm so sorry you're having an issue with the letters you're receiving. Please do continue to pray and seek the Lord's direction. If there's any letter in particular that concerns you, please let us know; we would be happy to send an inquiry to your child's center.
