Save Money, Stop Sending Me Mail

Can you please stop sending me stuff in the mail? I would rather receive emails because paper, printing, and postage are a waste of money these days. Sending me more letters will not inspire us to sponsor more children due to our current budget, and we sometimes receive stuff that is fairly useless. I would not even mind receiving our child's letters via email. If you would move to paperless communication for people my age, you would save so much money and be able to do more. Thank you for everything you do!

Hey Spencer!  We would love to be able to send everything to you via email. Regrettably, our system is a bit outdated and does not quite allow this. (I know!  We're in what century?) :)  However, we are going through a huge system upgrade over the next two years that will bring us current and allow us to customize each user's preferences. Until then, I have altered your account so that you do not receive these extra type of mailings. You should just receive mailing related to Rio, like his letters, updates regarding his country and the Compassion magazine. I hope that will help in the meantime.

Jason, with your permission I would love to take over correspondence to your sponsored child since you no longer wish to receive any mailings.

:) If you don't want mailings from your child, Compassion can sign them up for a correspondent :) Hopefully they'll be able to do this for you on Monday (They are closed on weekends)

Hello, what's the latest on the paperless "transition" at Compassion?  This 2-yr old post said over the next 2 yrs a transition to paperless would occur.  Has that happened yet?  I would love to stop getting packets of paper in the mail that could easily and cheaply be distributed via email.  Thanks for the work you do!

Yes it has taken place now, within the last month or so so you may still get some paper mail that was in the system.  On your account settings you can double check to make sure you are set to receive email only, but it likely defaulted as that option.  :)  I think you might still get child photo updates in the mail every 18-24 months, but the other stuff is now going to be available online :)

Hi Jellyjelly! Like Teresa mentioned, we're here! Our new digital system for sending and receiving child letters is underway and has been deployed :). If there were letters in the process of being mailed to you before we deployed this new system on April 11th, then you will still receive those in the mail. But going forward if you prefer to receive notifications of a new letter via email and read them through your My Account, this is now possible! Regrettably, I was unable to locate your account under your name and email address to ensure your settings were updated. However, you can change your preferences yourself on the right side of the Account Summary page when you first log in. Just select 'Edit Settings' next to the preferences you want to update. I encourage you to verify the address you have on your My Account to ensure it's updated to the email address you want everything sent to :).

I have the same issue! I have set up my account selecting all news/updates to be sent by e-mail and letter from my sponsor kid to come in letter. I've never received hardcopy from my child, and instead, I got endless letters from Compassion. I have contacted you via Facebook in Oct 2016 regarding this issue, but nothing changes. Please save the money on sending out all these very nicely printed letters and use it to help people in need of actual assistance! This is really starting to drive me away. Please stop sending me any mail. Thank you.

Shirley, I am so sorry to hear that you continue to receive appeals and that this has not been take care of on your account like it should have been. :( I also apologize if there was some confusion on our end about what you were really wanting. It sounds like you are wanting to receive only letters from your child in the mail and items pertaining your child via email. Is that correct? You are currently setup to receive emails notifying you that you have a letter from your child. I have changed your child letter delivery preferences to hard copy in the mail. I also changed your mailing preferences so that only child updates will come via email and all mail appeals will stop.

Hello Jason! I am sorry if the extra mailings you have been an inconvenience for you. As requested, I have updated your account today so that you will no longer receive these. I have also made one of your children available for a correspondent today and in this specific circumstance; Audrey, I have requested that one of his children be added to your account as one of your correspondent children :). Thank you so much for offering to write to another child.

Hi there,

I too am looking to decrease/stop marketing mailings (and Giving Sunday mailings), NOT correspondense from my sponsor child. Is it possible to stop these marketing mailings but not letters from my child? We get WAY too much mail (not just from you), so I wanted to see if it was possible to change this? We don't even open them anymore.

Best,
Emily

Hi Emily! I completely understand that :). I have updated your account and removed as many mailings without disturbing your child letters as possible. I hope that helps calm your mail level down!

I love the idea of less paper! We pay for our two Compassion kids with one annual payment. We do not need extra mailings or magazines. We believe in your program already and have been sponsoring kids for almost 2 decades now. Please adjust my account setting so that we only receive letters from our sponsor children. We love that we can respond to them with online letters and photos. But we just have too much paperwork to deal with these days! Thanks.

I would also like my account to be updated so that I don't receive paper mailings.  I just signed up for automated payments, but also don't want all of the mailings that Compassion has been sending.  It makes me wonder where the money goes that I do donate to my child because the amount of mailings I get is excessive.

I'm just another sponsor so I can't help with your request. I can however let you know that you can see how your money is used by looking on the website at the financial integrity page or checking out charity navigator. I've been a sponsor since 2011 and have never seen a charity with more transparency than Compassion when it comes to how my money is spent.

Thank you so much for the info you provided. I had no idea they had a page for all of the financial stuff so we could see where the money is going. I had always believed that compassion used the money wisely and how God intended; however had recently heard differently. Thanks for clearing it up for me. Have a great day!

Katie, I am so sorry that we have over burdened you with too much mail. :( That was not our intention. We are merely trying to get the word out about our ministry and everything you can be involved in if you are interested. As Kristen mentioned, all of our financial information is listed here. We take integrity very seriously here at Compassion and over 80% of all of your donations goes directly towards programs that benefit your child specifically. You are in control of what you receive here at Compassion.  I just updated your account so that you will no longer receive anything that doesn't pertain to your child.

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I wasn't just concerned about the amount I had been getting for the past 6 years, but truly appreciate your explanation. Thank you for updating my account on that. I wasn't sure how to do so, so I'm very glad you did that for me. Have a great day!

If you could also update my account so that I don't receive billing statements please, that would be great.

Thank you!

Hi Sharon! I see you have one of your children on an automatic withdrawal. Would you like me to put your other two children on an automatic withdrawal as well? If I do so, you won't continue to receive billing statements in the mail.

Hi! Could you update my account so that I don't receive paper account statements and other "snail mail" that doesn't pertain to my sponsored child? Save postage, save paper, save time. Sponsor # is 02055786. Thanks!

Hi! I'm also wondering if I could stop receiving mail. I get my letters from my child electronically. I don't mind the mail that pertains to my child such as pictures, but I don't really want anything else, not a big deal, but would be helpful :) thank you :)

Hi Abigail! Thanks so much for reaching out! I have updated your account to opt out of all physical mailings. Sadly, paper statements are the one thing that we can't turn off because legally, we need a way to send out tax statements at the end of each year; however, because you are on an automatic monthly withdrawal, then you shouldn't be receiving paper statements every month. Please let us know if there's anything else we can do for you, and thanks so much for being mindful of helping Compassion reduce waste!

Hi Kesha,

I pulled up this account and changed your mailing preference to "Do Not Mail". However, I did want to also ensure this is your only account. I see this account does not have any currently sponsored kiddos. Is this correct? Thank you for clarifying!

Hello, I am in the same boat as everyone else. I think it is becoming burdensome and wasteful in what I receive. I love the letters from our kids, and essentially that is the only thing I want showing up in the mailbox. I tried to do all the settings I can to stop receiving things via e-mail as well. Could we make it that the only email and mail I get is letters or child specific updates, info, photos. Thank you.

Hi Timothy,

I have made some edits to your account to ensure that you will only receive things very pertinent to your child. Thank you so much for your continued support!

Like everyone else, I would like to reduce the amount of paper mail I receive.  I searched on my account settings and could not find a way to change this preference myself.  I would like to reduce my mailings to only those things that are related to my sponsor child.  I truly value the work that you do. Thank you.

Hi Julie! Thank you so much for your support of Compassion. I have updated your mail preferences to where you should only receive mailings pertaining to your account and your sponsored child! Please know that this may take up to four weeks to take effect.
