Hi,

I’m guessing at some point, my sponsored child might want to know what I do for a living. The thing is, I’m too ill to work. I don’t mind being open about my health but at the same time I don’t want to upset the child. What should I do, please?

Thank you :)

Elizabeth, sadly, many of our children have seen and heard of people with illnesses and death far more often than children here might. Part of the tragedy of poverty is that it is also very bad for ones health. In addition, many of the children pray daily for their sponsors and relish the chance to have a specific prayer request. I would be sensitive to your sponsored child's age and gender, and I would recommend only sharing what you feel comfortable with, but I would say that what you wrote above would certainly be appropriate to share in a letter.
