Just returned from Nicaragua where we were able to meet our child Julissa. Her 8 year old brother is not sponsored, is there a way to get him registered into the project where we could also sponsor him? If not, can we sponsor him when Julissa who is currently 16 graduates from the project in two years? We have made a connection with this family and would like to continue to be a part.

Hi Ray! That’s so awesome that you were able to meet your beautiful young lady Julissa! We greatly appreciate your heart and desire to also sponsor Julissa’s little brother. However, the decision regarding how many children can be sponsored per family is made by the local project leadership. Regrettably, your request falls outside of the parameters of what we ask of our country staff. Because the project leadership knows the needs of their community better than we do, we let them decide if it is better to have one sponsored child from many families rather than multiple children from one family. Please rest assured that Julissa’s brother is benefiting indirectly by things she shares and by participating in our partner church activities. You can bless her brother by sending extra stickers and other paper items with your letters. You may also bless the entire family by sending a family gift if you’d like. You may give $25-$1,000 a year and designate it as a family gift. The project director will consult with the family about what their greatest need is and help them to purchase the item(s). If you would like to continue corresponding with Julissa and her family after she has completed the Compassion program, please contact us afterwards so we may provide additional information regarding your options :). Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Have a blessed day!
