I have received a letter today stating that my sponsor child's mother is very sick, therefore he could not finish the school year. What does this mean? Will we still be able to write to him and sponsor him? What happens now? We are so concerned.

Hi Jeanie, I'm another sponsor like you but perhaps I can explain how Compassion will help your child.
If he's unable to go to school for a short period of time, the project may be able to help him keep up in his studies (by tutoring him)until he can go back. If he doesn't plan on returning to school they will teach him life skills, a trade, etc.
You'll still be able to write him and sponsor him for as long as he stays in Compassions program, usually to age 22.
Prayers for your sponsor child and his mother.

Jeanie, I am sorry your kiddo's mother is sick and he could not finish school this year. I am a sponsor too and the awesome Compassion reps that manage this forum will give you a the official answers later. Hear is my understanding of what will happen. He'll remain in the Compassion program even if he is not in school. The Compassion project will help your child and family as much as they possibly can. I am praying for your kiddo, his family, and you. God bless!

Kristen and Heather, thank you for your very helpful and kind answers. Jeanie, I am deeply sorry for the concern you must have for your sweet Jairo :(. Please know that our wonderful staff, tutors, and volunteers will be sure to provide as much help as they can during a difficult time like this. I have also just sent an inquiry to our field office in Bolivia to have our field staff look into this for us. They will ensure that Jairo is doing well, find out when he will be going back to school. They will also find out how his mother is doing and what care she is receiving. It may take up to 45 days to receive a response. We will be in contact with you as soon as we hear back from our field office. Thank you so much for the love and concern you have for your sweet boy, and I encourage you to continue to pray for him and his family's health. Please rest assured that Jairo will be able to stay in the program even during the time he is not in school. In fact, like Kristen said, we will offer tutoring until he can re-enter school, so he is not too far behind. May God bless you and your sweet boy.

Thank you everyone for bringing me to ease. We are just happy that we will still be able to help him and hope his mama is doing well. There is still so much to learn about Jairo and his family. His mother has even written to me a few months back so it was unexpected. Thank you all again.
