Since there is a famine in Uganda would a gift to my sponsored child's family be appropriate to help them through this crises?

Would like to help them but wasn't sure there is food available to buy.

Hi Tamera! Thank you so much for your generous heart to help your young man and his family in Uganda during this extreme drought. You are most welcome to send a family gift to them if you would like, and I'm sure that they would be so grateful and blessed by your gift. We do also have a special Disaster Relief Fund that our Compassion staff has been utilizing to bring relief to the needy families experiencing famine in East Africa that you may give to as well. God bless you for your desire to give!

So even when there is a famine, the money can be used to actually purchase food? I was wondering the same thing...picturing them sitting there with money but nothing to buy. :(

Hi Marci,
When disasters like this happen, food and water is provided to the kiddos in the program through our disaster fund. However, if another gift is given, the family would be welcome to spend those funds on extra food or water at the market. I am sure that lots of supplies have been outsourced to help make sure there are still items for purchase. :)
