I was looking at the list of letters between me and my child and I noticed that there are at least three missing from the ones listed on the account. The first one I ever sent to her (an intro letter) is not on there, and her intro letter to me isn't there either (both of those letters are from over a year ago). Also the letter I sent for her birthday isn't listed. Of course I can't say for sure if she received the letters from me but I do know the intro letter from her was delivered because I have the hard copy of it (so I'm hoping it's just a system glitch). There might be other letters missing from the list too; these 3 are the ones I know of.

Also a couple months ago I posted about a letter I received that was not fully translated; I was told an inquiry was sent to the country office and the letter would be re-translated and I wanted to check on the status of this if possible. Here is my sponsor number: 06722266   And here is my child's number: DR036500849.

Thanks!

Hello there! Yes, Sarah is correct. We didn't begin to scan letters until April 2016 so letters previous to that date will not be viewable in your online account. We actually were able to get that inquiry completed for you, and the new copy of her letter has replaced the old one in your online account. I will also have a new copy of the letter mailed to you :). I also want to mention that we figured out what happened with her age discrepancy. Maria Liz is 11 years old according to her birth certificate. She confused her age at the moment of writing her letter when she addressed the information regarding the move the project did to another group age.

Thanks so much for looking into the letter and the age discrepancy! I'm glad we know her correct age and she was just confused (I was hoping that's what it was :) ) But I did look at that letter online just now and it looks like nothing has changed in the translation. Could it be just taking a while to show the new one? Also do you know what might be going on with the birthday letter I sent her? It was a Compassion-issued card with a note to her from me and I think I sent it in January 2017 (in order for her to reach it by her birthday in March).

Crazy Goat Lady 17, I'm going to send you what I see in our system as the translation by email. Let me know if it is the same that you are seeing. It isn't word for word exactly what she wrote, but they did translate this letter into English so that it would make sense in our language because we say things slightly differently. Your birthday letter to her went through in February, so she did receive it in time to celebrate in March :). The date I have listed in our system is February 2, 2017 and it is included with another piece of Compassion stationary (the simple card that includes Ephesians 2:10 on the front). Are you not able to see it in your online account?

I do see the birthday letter now, didn't realize it would be with the other card :P Thanks for pointing that out, I should've just checked that first :) I'll keep an eye out for that email and let you know about the translation.

I did send it, but let me go ahead and send it to you again. It may have gotten lost in cyber space between you and me!

I figured out what I did, Crazy Goat Lady 17! I sent it to the email address you listed in your profile on the forum and not the one listed on your Compassion account. I just took the opportunity to send it to the one we have listed on your Compassion account this morning. Let me know if you continue to not see it. It will be coming from socialmedia@us.ci.org :).

Got the email, thanks for sending it :) Unfortunately the translation in that one is the same as well. Yesterday you mentioned that it wouldn't be word for word because we say some things slightly differently in English (which makes sense); but I don't think that's the case with the things I noticed in this letter. I don't know a lot of Spanish but the things left out look to me like simple sentences that would translate well. For example, at the end of her letter she says Philippians 4:13 is her favorite verse. Then she writes out the verse (which matches a translation in a Spanish Bible so I know she didn't write it in a way that would have made translation difficult) and says "Me despido con carino!" which (in Google translate) means "I say goodbye with affection!" She ends it with Dios le bendiga (God bless you). The English translation leaves out the written verse and the "I say goodbye with affection." Also she mentions playing with a dog because he is man's best friend, and earlier in the letter says she wants to learn about my life; neither of those things are included in English. Sorry for all the details :P but just want to give you more of an idea of what I'm talking about. It just seems like these sentences would translate easily so I'm not sure why they were left out.

Crazy Goat Lady 17, re-reading the letter, I agree with you. I had skimmed it at first but I agree that the translation still could be better. I am going to see if I can get the office in the Dominican Republic to very clearly translate the letter sentence by sentence for you. It will take several more weeks for me to hear back from them, but I will do my best to have them re-translate it for you again and include all of the missing sentences :).

Hi Sarah. A letter from Guadalupe Lopez was showing up in translation and I just checked again and says letter cancelled. Can you send an inquiry to see what happened? Thanks.

Hi William! I am so sorry, but we are not able to send an inquiry on why letters are cancelled. When a letter shows a cancelled status, it simply means that they removed the letter from the system in order to fix something. In this case, it looks like the scan was not good quality, or that the translation was unreadable. This will be fixed and then put back in the system as soon as soon as possible. Thanks for understanding!

Hi Shannon. Thanks. I forgot this happened before and that's the reason why.
