Is it possible to sponsor a child who not only lives in a geographic region generally affected by HIV/AIDS but also one who is specifically known to be HIV-positive? I was a medical missionary in Zambia, Africa, and I developed special compassion for children with HIV/AIDS. I have a real heart for these kids. Thank you so much for any information you can provide!

Hi Amy! Thank you so much for your heart for these children, and for asking this question. Due to privacy regulations, we aren't able to share specific details about an individual child's HIV status. The most specific we can get is sharing if a child is living in a high-risk area for HIV/AIDS. I am sorry for any disappointment this may cause! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

As an alternative and to protect the child’s HIV status from the entire world (on the internet), would it be possible to call Compassion and directly work with a Compassion employee to find a child who was HIV-positive?

Amy, I wish that was possible! However, the only people who are aware of a child's HIV status would be the child, their family, and the center staff that works directly with the child. Not even our staff here in the US knows about a child's HIV status.
