I received an email just a few days ago reminding me to send a Christmas gift to our child who we have sponsored for the last 13 years, but when I went to my profile to send the gift he was no longer there and a new child had been added. We have not received any communication indicating our child had left the program (he is 20 so thought we still had time), nor anything indicating we would be sponsoring a new child. We are not prepared to sponsor a new child at this time. Please advise why this change occurred and how to rectify this issue.

Hello, Regan. I am so sorry to hear about any miscommunication on our end about this issue. According to our records, on September 19th, we called and left a voicemail about Luis' departure from our program. At that time, we also sent you a letter explaining that we had a child on reserve for your consideration. The letter explained that you were under no obligation to sponsor this new child, but that we would need to hear from you if you decided not to continue sponsorship. Because we had not heard from you one way or another on this matter, Dayiro was added to your account as your new sponsored child. Again, I apologize for this frustration and inconvenience. Would you like me to remove Dayiro from your account and make him available to another sponsor?

Hello Sierra, we live overseas so the voicemail may have gone to a US number and the letter has not yet made it to us. I’m a little confused as to why we did not receive an email in addition to the phone call and letter, and that regular Compassion emails received after September 19th still mentioned Luis.

We do appreciate all that Compassion does for these children, but unfortunately at this time we are unable to sponsor another child. Appreciate if you could please remove Dayiro and make him available to another sponsor. Thank you for your prompt reply.

Regan, I am deeply sorry for any confusion or frustration caused by this situation. Luis did complete the program a bit earlier than expected, and I’m so sorry that we sent you a letter and voicemail only. Without special notes on the account, it is not standard procedure to email the sponsor as well. I have updated your account with this note just in case you decide to sponsor another child someday. We do apologize for the mistake in our recent automated Christmas email. Please rest assured that I have made Dayiro available for sponsorship once again. I encourage you to send Luis a final letter to say goodbye if you’d like! If you choose to send one more letter, please write “Final Letter” across the top of your correspondence as well as his child ID number (PE044100488). You may send your letter to our address at:

Attn Correspondence Dept
Compassion International
Colorado Springs, CO 80997-0004

I understand this may be difficult due to you being out of the country, so if you’d like to email your letter to us, we’d be happy to print it out and send it to our mail department here. You may email us at socialmedia@compassion.com

Please let us know if you have any additional questions or concerns. If in the future you would like to sponsor another child, we would be blessed to partner with you again.
