Good afternoon, Team. May I please ask why it might be that Bosco is a bit behind in his education level at this time? If it may be a sensitive subject for him then I would probably try to avoid discussing school with him in my letters unless he brings it up. Would that be best?

Hi Adam! You are so kind to want to know more about Bosco's schooling without trying to hurt his feelings. Aren't you excited to get to know this sweet kiddo :)? When Bosco started the program in 2012, he was enrolled in Kindergarten. I think what probably happened is his family hadn't been able to afford school beforeĀ Compassion stepped in. He has also had to repeat first grade. School can be difficult for kids who started later than their peers, making them feel more self-conscious about their ability. I would take every opportunity to encourage him to keep doing his best and remind him that you are proud of him no matter what! Your words will have such a wonderful impact on him! We hear over and over from alumni that their sponsor's encouragement and belief in them is what made them want to keep doing their best. You are going to beĀ a great sponsor for Bosco, I know it!

Thank you, Sarah, for your helpful answer and your very kind words and encouragement. It's an honor and a blessing to be Bosco's sponsor and I'm really looking forward to getting to know him. I will try to be delicate but encouraging about his education when I write to him. Thank you again, and have a great weekend!
