Feeling sad after child from program graduated...Sponsored a boy since he was 6 years old. He is now 22 and is graduating the program. I am feeling sad and I know that is normal. IS there any other sponors that have had a child in the program for a long time and they graduated? How are you feeling?

Yes, we had 2 children graduate in the last 3 months both sponsored for 16 years. It is sad and normal to grieve; however, these children are equipped and ready to go out and do great things thanks to the education and train g they receive and our partnership with Compassion. There is a form you can request so that your child can have your contact information if you wish to continue the relationship outside of the program. It is discouraged and you have to sign a disclaimer. God bless you for your sponsorship!

Thanks for the reply Sally. Wow isn't it amazing how fast time flies with our sponsorships. We do have several other sponsored children but it is a milestone when the "first child graduates." I did leave in the last letter our website address and now i am thinking i should not have done that? oops! maybe the translator edits it I just don't know. I have never visited my sponsored child in Haiti. I wonder if that would have made it even harder for me. Oh well.  so I believe my emotions are running high anyway as a busy mom of many. Thank you for reaching out and empathizing Sally!

I had one from age 8 to 22 that graduated recently.  It is definitely strange since that is my first to finish.  I was happy with the final letter I wrote, and the one that was received, so that helped with closure!  As she's still working at some things, it would have been nice to know where she ended up, but I know she's got good people around her.  Because Compassion works in the local church, I take solace that the kids aren't completely cut off when they graduate, but can continue to attend the church with the people that supported them, if that's what they choose to do.

Elisa, thank you so much for reaching out to other sponsors on this forum to talk about your beloved sponsored children! I know it is always difficult to lose a sponsored child, especially one that you have been connected with for so long. We thank you for the years you spent investing in your child's life, and I pray that God brings you comfort during this time.
