My sponsor child is training to play soccer. He has mentioned several times he may play in Miami. I was researching soccer teams and players in his country and I found him on Facebook and Instagram. What are the rules for reaching out to him that way?

Sponsored kids are not allowed to interact with their sponsors outside of the letter relationship; I know some sponsors have found their kids on social media and enjoy glimpses from public photos, etc. But do not friend until after the child has left Compassion entirely.

Hi Kristi! Compassion strongly advises that sponsors not respond to or initiate any communication on social media from their child. It is important for the child and the sponsor to respect and follow Compassion guidelines as well as honor each others' privacy. These contacts may develop into potentially problematic situations for Compassion and the sponsor. In order to protect both parties, Compassion does not allow direct contact between children and their sponsors. We are committed to confidentiality and privacy and can only ensure this with communication solely through Compassion. :)

If he does come to play in Miami is that something where they could organize a visit through Compassion? Or to go see his game?

This is a great question, and probably one that would be best handled by our tours and visits team, since they would be the ones helping you organize a visit anyway, if one were to happen. You can reach them by email at visits@us.ci.org!

This is for his safety and yours. Not everyone has good intentions- they could solicit or black mail you or hold the child for ransom. Not to sound scarey but not everyone cares about children but use anything they can for an edge to make money.
