One of our sponsored girls told us in a letter she was sad because she lives too far away and her mom told her she can't go to the C.D.C very much. Can you confirm if she is going? I have received one letter and it was the one that told me she lived far away. If she is not going to the program am I still sponsoring her? And what does my sponsorship go to? She seems like such a sweetheart i hope she is still going - Thank you! She is ME014100205

KimR, I appreciate your care and concern for your child.

The Compassion program looks much like what we would call an after-school program here in the US. Your sponsorship helps to provide medical checkups, health and hygiene education, basic life-skill training, vocational training, books, educational supplies, school fees, tutoring, and a meal whenever she attends the center.

The children are required to attend at least once a week. If they are absent for two weeks, the staff at the center will begin making home visits and working with the family to make sure the child is able to attend regularly. In some cases, we are able to work something out so that the child can continue to receive the benefits despite them not being able to attend as often. However, if a child continues to have unexcused consecutive absences, we have to remove them from the program after two months. I noticed she did write you another letter recently that is currently in translation, so it certainly sounds like she is still in the program and able to attend.

If for some reason, she does leave our program, we will let you know and sadly your sponsorship will have to end. I really do hope you are able to continue sponsoring her though!
