I am about to start having to pay college loans, and the payment is more than I was anticipating. I would like to continue sponsoring my child but I'm not sure if I can; I am going to be cutting it close just to get my loan payments paid on time. Are there an options for situations like these? I would hate to cancel my sponsorship, but may have to if not. Thank you so much!

Hi Lyanna! I know from personal experience how difficult the transition can be of starting to pay student loans. We're happy to work with you to help you through this transition. You mentioned that you will be cutting it close to get the payment in on time. Would it be helpful to change the pull date for  your support for your child to later in the month? Maybe the 20th? Maybe it would be helpful to send the donations manually for a while? We could also cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help you until you get back on your feet. If not and if you really need to cancel, let me know and I can help you with that as well.

Angie, I am so sorry to hear you are struggling through a financial hardship at this time :(. I am only able to cover three months of future support at a time, which means I can take care of September through November donations for you today. If you still need another month of help after November, please do let us know and we will be able to discuss the situation with you at that time. I am praying that it gets much better before that though!

Over a month ago my account was charged the full amount when it was only suppose to be charged $19. A refund was suppose to be given to me but I️ haven’t got it yet?

Shannon, I am so sorry to hear that you still have not received that refund. According to our records the refund was supposed to be put back on your card on October 19. I would think you would see that on your end by now though. I am asking our processing department to look into this and correct it. Again, I apologize for the delay on the refund and that we double charged you to begin with. Thank you for your patience as we correct this.

Hello,

I would like to transfer my sponsorship to my sister. She would like to take over paying for Giovanna as I am beginning to pay student loans and saving for a wedding. Can you assist me?

Hi Elizabeth! We can absolutely transfer the financial sponsorship over to your sister while you are paying loans and saving for a wedding. Congratulations by the way :)! Would you have your sister email us at socialmedia@compassion.com to confirm the transfer? Once she confirms, we can move Giovanna over to her account. Would you still like to be in charge of corresponding with Giovanna during this time? If so, we can set your account up as the correspondent account while your sister will take over the financial portion of the sponsorship.

Im actually in the same situation as my fellow sister, I'm on my sophomore year of college, and cutting it close to getting my loans paid off and on top of that my car payment and insurance. Im hoping i have a few options to what I can do in this situation. I love sponsoring and I do not want to cancel it. Is there something I can do?

Hello, I'm sponsoring a child in El Salvador and I want to continue to do so. However, I am having financial problems and I need to cancel the payments. I did not want to make this decision but, I am unable to afford this every month until I have a steady job. I actually went on a mission trip this summer to El Salvador and that's what cultivated me to sponsor a child since there is such a big need for it. I am a senior in High School but I really just need to start saving and I feel so bad for signing up for this and not being able to consistently help him. I sponsor Melvin De Jesus Segovia Cortéz.

Jordan, I am so encouraged that the Lord impacted you in such a passionate way on your mission's trip. I see that you also emailed us and one of your representatives has taken care of your request. We will work hard to find Melvin another sponsor quickly. We appreciate your heart to support a child but certainly understand if this is not a good time for you. I pray that you find a steady job soon and please know that you're welcome to sponsor again with us at any time!

I was wondering if I could pay 19.00 for my sponsorship on the 20th because I was off work sick last week and I will make it up later. I need the money right now It has to last for two weeks. Try to call but you were closed on the 18th. That is for the 9 children 19.00 for each child.

Hi Eleanor! I certainly understand and we're happy to do this. I have noted on your account that you'll make up the other $19 per child for this month at a later date. I have updated your account today so that tomorrow, only $19 will pull for the following children: Deyanire BO3121089, Benjamin BO3121187, Edith DR4061065, Djemima HA6695025, Hermano HA7442601, Daleska PE3700562, Anderson PE3720399, Jhandy PH4390173 and Princess PH4390246.

I pray you're feeling better!

Hi Susan,
I too am struggling with student loan payments with extremely high interest rates right now. I would like to continue donating until Messeret finishes in a few months, but would also like to lower my payments, starting with June, to the $19 amount for the remainder of my sponsorship. Would this be possible?
Thank you

Hi Paradise! Congrats on your first apartment! I know that's a big step being on your own and all so good job. :) I have covered the next three months support for you. Please let us know in October how you are doing and whether you're able to continue, need a little more help, or need to cancel your sponsorship at that time. Also, it looks like we've had some mail sent back for you. It could be because of your move. Please take a moment to visit your "My Account" and verify or update your mailing address.

Could I possibly suspend my sponsorship for a few months?.

My father is currently unemployed, and though I will have a part time job for the summer, I have used up almost all of my savings during my time at a one year bible college overseas. I want to start rebuilding my savings account and also have that money set aside in case my family needs it.

I would like to suspend my account with Brian for about three months, please. If my father has a job by then, I would really like to continue sponsoring Brian, but if not, at that point I would really need to cancel my sponsorship; we would really just not be able to afford it.

Financial Issues But Don't Want To Cancel.

I have been sponsoring three girls and giving $35 a month to HVC as a college student but I recently got into a car wreck and need a new car. I really don't want to cancel but with current costs, it looks like I'll have to choose between car and insurance payments or my kids. No matter what I will have to cancel giving to HVC. Is there anything that can be done so I don't have to give up sponsorship of my three girls? I feel so bad about it.

Kellie, I'm so glad you're alright! It sounds like this was a pretty serious wreck. I know how expensive cars and car insurance can be, especially after being in an accident. I was in an minor accident in January and my insurance premiums went up quite a bit. Since HVC is really not an option right now, I went ahead and removed this commitment. For your three girls, we would be happy to cover your support for three months. Since it could take some time to figure out what your financial situation will look like, I would suggest starting with that. Then after the three months is over, we can start you at $19 per child ($57 monthly) for up to six months or if you are still struggling just let us know. We could also cancel just on or two of your children but I know that is a tough decision. Please let me know which of these options would help.

It would be great if you could cover them for three months! That would be fantastic. I would absolutely hate to cancel on any of them. And then the $19 a month per child for those six months would really allow me to get back on my feet financially. Thank you so much!

Um, can I have this applied to my account as well??  I'm working towards finishing my second degree, and by the grace of God have been able to keep paying to support my Compassion child, but the financial burden is getting to be too great.  If I could have some time to work and get my savings back up it would be incredibly helpful!!!  Thank you!

Hello, my college roommate and I got this account together and so I only see her during the school year and not during the summer, therefore she hasn't been able to get me her part. Since I work only when college is in session, I'm running low on funds and may not be able to jungle getting books and paying tuition and funding our child. I was wondering if I could have the same applied to our account, so I won't be the cause of us cancelling this great sponsorship. Thank you so much!

Hi.
I just finished my first year of college. I had budgeted money for my sponsorship for a year at the end of high school/beginning of last summer. My hope was to have a job to continue paying for my sponsorship by now, but God has had other plans. Unfortunately, I have missed payments for the past two months, as much as it hurts me to admit, I can not continue supporting my child. Could you please help me cancel my sponsorship?

Hi Marianna,
We truly appreciate your heart to want to continue sponsoring Gertrase even without having a job. If you would like, Compassion would be happy to cover the couple months that you had missed in addition to the next three months to allow you time to find a job. This means that your next sponsorship contribution would not be due until November. Please let us know if you feel this would allow you to continue your relationship with Gertrase. :)

Hello Susai,
We do agree with you. Many children need extra funding to be able to go to school, have enough to eat and a safe house to live in. Compassion was able to work for nearly 50 years in India. We began working in India in 1968, but sadly due to changes in government regulations, we did have to discontinue doing so. Compassion will continue to keep India in our prayers!

Very Sad.

I am very sad to say that due to financial reasons, I am looking at the possibility that I may have to cancel my sponsorship of Jose and Kevin. I really do not want to cancel either one of them, these boys need my family and we need them. I know how it feels to think that no one loves you, and to feel abandoned. Unfortunately due to medical reasons I have been out of work since March, and just recently found out that I will not be able to return to work. We can not afford the monthly payments right now. Is there a way to stay in contact with the boys and suspend the payments only for a month or two?
Thank You

Mary,

Wow, I'm so sorry that you have been out of work so long. I hope that you've been able to get disability or something during this time so that you're not going completely without an income. I will be praying for healing soon and hope that God has been really meeting you during this time of recovery. I so appreciate your heart of concern for your children as well! We really want to be able to help you to keep the very special relationship that you have with them if at all possible. I just covered the next three months of support for you. Please continue to stay connected through letters to your children since you are still sponsoring them during this time. Let us know how you are doing in October and we will reassess our options at that point. :)

Susan,

Thank you, so much for doing that for me. You just showed not only me; but my own children that there is kindness in the world. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Sometimes I forget that the Lord shows blessings when we least expect, but you helped to renew my spirit, just when I needed it the most. You have no idea what your gift has done. May the Lord bless you.

Are there options for sponsors going through a short term financial difficulty.

I was sponsoring a child with two other friends who can no longer support her. Unfortunately I can not fully support her by myself right now. I know in about a month I will be able to though. Is there anything I can do that will help me out in this situation so I don't have to cancel my sponsorship?

I am having trouble this summer, and would love to continue to sponsor Carisa, but as you can tell I am a couple months behind. I should be able to make a payment in August, but I do not think I will be able to cover June and July's payment as well. Is there something you can do to help? I am a substitute teacher and since school is out during the summer, I do not have the extra income coming in.

Susan, my husband recently lost his job and I am faced with the hard decision of whether or not I should cancel my sponsorship. It really breaks my heart to think I am letting my sponsored child down in a time when his life is probably looking up. Not to mention this month is his birthday. I saw that you were able to help others out and I was wondering if you could do the same for me. I just don't want my child to suffer because of our current circumstances. He was waiting a long time for a sponsor. Thanks for your help.

Hi Susan,

I came into this discussion feeling very concerned and upset about having to cancel my sponsorship of Bibata.  Can you imagine my excitement and relief when I realized that I have the option to suspend my payments and then reinstate them at a reduced cost?  If you could please apply this to my account as well, I would be so appreciative.  Not only are you all lifesavers for the children and families in need but you're lifesavers for the donors as well, as evidenced above.

Thank you!

Hope all is well.  We have been struggling a bit to keep our account current.  We made a partial payment today, but wanted to see if we could setup an arrangement similar to what you have been doing for others in the posts.

Any help your team can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Brian

Brian, I am so sorry that your family is going through financial hardship right . I understand how difficult that can be and we are grateful for the sacrifice you have made for Lenta and Jodson. I am praying that the Lord would bless and provide for your family. I see that right now your support is current through March 6, 2014. I was able to update your account today to help with the rest of March and all of April.  This brings you current through the end of April. Regrettably, I am unable to reduce your rate as it was temporarily reduced for 6 months previously. I certainly hope this helps you out during this time and please let me know if I can assist you further.

Sponsorship.

I've been behind on my payments recently due to a change in my financial situation. I really do not want to stop my sponsorship but I dont think i can afford it right now. Do I have any other options other than cancelling my sponsorship?

Katherine, I'm so sorry that you're faced with such a difficult decision. :( Yes, we do have some options for sponsorship going through a tough financial situation. It looks like you had posted earlier this month and we offered these options to you but we never heard back. Basically, we'd be happy to cover the months that you missed through the end of August. Then starting in September, we could lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Compassion would cover the difference and your child will continue to receive the same support. Most importantly, you could continue the life changing relationship that you've started with your child. Please let me know if this would help.

Hi Katherine! I have updated your account today. You will receive a letter confirming the reduced rate, and another letter as a reminder the month before the rate returns to the normal contribution amount of $38. Estefany does not know anything about the financial situation so please know that she will continue to receive the same benefits as she always has, including your encouraging letters to her.  I certainly pray that your situation improves and the Lord would provide for you and your family!

Hi Javi! Yes, we are happy to work with you to help you to keep the relationship that you have with your sponsored child. For example, we could cover your support for a few months during back to school for your toddler. We know this can be a difficult time financially for families, especially as your child is just starting school. Regrettably, I was unable to locate your account from your name and email address. Please post your child's ID number here, email ciinfo@compassion.com, or call 800-366-7676 so that we can assist you.

Hi Jeremy! I am sorry you have been faced with this difficult decision :(. Yes, we are more than happy to help you out during this time if you would be interested in continuing your relationship with Yoseph. I see that your account is a bit behind. We would be willing to cover the months missed and bring your account current through August 31, 2014. Starting in September, we can temporarily reduce your rate to $19 for the next 6 months. If this would help you, please let me know and I will update your account. If not, I am able to make Yoseph available for another sponsor.

Hi Jeremy! There is nothing further you need to do to make this happen. I have taken care of this for you on your account so starting in September your support amount will be $19 a month for the next six months. Please let us know if we can help in any other way.

Like the many others here, due to some current financial hardship I'm wondering if it would be possible to suspend my sponsorship for Aug, Sep, and possibly Oct, and then go with the reduced rate for the following 6 months? I definitely don't want to stop sponsorship altogether, but my husband and I are still trying to regain our financial feet after losing our jobs last Thanksgiving and I think this would enable us to pull things together a little faster. :-/ On the positive side, if we're able to assume the full financial responsibility again sooner than the end of the six months, will there be a way to do that? I'm hoping it won't take quite that long...

Hello,
I am currently sponsoring Elias, however, I am about to pay my college tuition in full and will not have money to pay the sponsorship for this month. I do not want to cancel my sponsorship however I am struggling right now because of all the money I have to spend on school. Would it be possible to get help for 3 months and the reduced rate for 6, this would significantly help me to be able to get financially stable again. My sponsorship number is 07374625, I look forward to your reply and any help you can give me!
God bless, Leticia.

Hi Leticia! I took care of covering your donations through October and reducing your rate to $19 a month from November to April this morning :). I completely understand how hard it can be to make the donations when you are paying for school!

Hello

My name is Miranda Pacheco, because of some unexpected turn of events that led to a few finical struggles I will no longer be able to continue sponsoring my compassion child. I am terribly sorry, unfortunately I cannot continue the monthly payments :/ , and want to make sure Maureen is able to get connected to someone who can provide the funds for her.  What do I do to go about canceling my account?

Miranda, I am so sorry to hear that you aren't able to continue supporting your sponsored child, but I fully understand the difficult decision you've had to make! It looks like another representative was able to cancel the sponsorship for you this morning. Please let me know if I can assist you further!
