I am about to start having to pay college loans, and the payment is more than I was anticipating. I would like to continue sponsoring my child but I'm not sure if I can; I am going to be cutting it close just to get my loan payments paid on time. Are there an options for situations like these? I would hate to cancel my sponsorship, but may have to if not. Thank you so much!

Hi Susan. I looked at my account and the amount showing a few days ago that would be paid out of my account, $468.00, has not been taken out. I just want to look into this. I have a few job leads for a 2nd job so I'll see how soon I can get back to normal.

William, I sincerely apologize that the amount still came out this month in error. I have sent a refund for that $468 to be put back in your account and made sure the support will not be withdrawn until next month.

So I'm not the only one! I recently lost my job and it's become increasingly difficult to pay my amount and this 6 month thing would be very helpful and give me the time I need to get it together. I just started this and really would like to continue this, and from I hear people can get really connected to their child. -Sydney M

Hi Sydney! You are certainly not alone in your situation and thank you for your vulnerability in bringing this to our attention so that we can help you through this season. I have updated your account so that your rate is reduced to $19 for the months of August through January of 2015. Your rate will increase back up to the normal $38 beginning in February of 2015. Please know that during this time, Alexa still receives the same benefits from the project and will still love to receive your letters! :) I pray that your situation improves and that you build a wonderful relationship with your child!

So I have recently returned form a mission trip and am getting ready to start college, that being said, I dont have a lot of money right now.  I am going to be working a lot next month, but i dont have the funds to pay my donation this month yet.  I was wondering if i could move the date.  I get paid on friday, but right now....i have nothing in my account to donate and i dont want to bounce a payment or anything.  I want to keep donating for sure, i just need a little more time right now.

Good morning Marlie,

It sounds like you are pretty busy and have plenty going on right now! :) Where did you go on your missions trip?

We are happy to help you while you get back into the swing of having a job and being in school! I set your next automatic withdrawal to be on September 20, 2014 and stopped your contribution that was set to pull tomorrow for August's support. You are welcome to give that support whenever you have the funds available.

Josh, I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling financially right now and can no longer afford to sponsor your child. :( If this is a short term financial difficulty, we do have options. For example, we could cover your support for three months and then lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Please let me know if this would help. However, we do understand that there are situations that just make it responsibly impossible to continue your sponsorship. If this is the case, please let me know, and I'll make your child available for another sponsor. Please rest assured that we will keep your child in our program. We will support her through the Unsponsored Children's Fund until we are able to find another sponsor for her.

Please cancel my support, this is something we have been struggling with for about 6 months now and have decided since we cant afford it we need to allow someone else to take this up. My withdrawal is set for tomorrow, can you cancel this in time as well?

Josh, I'm really sorry that you've been struggling for so long. I have made your child available for another sponsor. As a courtesy, I stopped your automatic withdrawal when you had posted earlier. Your last donation was processed in July.

Maryah, I am so sorry that you're faced with such a difficult decision. I appreciate you reaching out to us as I know it is tough to even admit that you're struggling sometimes. This thread is predominantly for those who have a desire to continue their sponsorship if they had some financial help. I've started a separate conversation for those who are further down the line of really needing to cancel to help walk you through the process. However, as you requested, I have made your child available for another sponsor.

Struggling to make sponsorship payment and need some help for a time.

We have been sponsoring Fendi for about 4 years now and love seeing how compassion is helping him and his family.  My husband just lost his job so we are asking if Compassion can cover our sponsorship for 3 months and then lower our payments to $19 per month for another 6 months?  We are hoping this will give us time for my husband to find work.

Hi Jackalyn! We are so so thankful for your sponsorship of Fendi and the love and support that you are providing for him! I am sorry to hear that your husband lost his job and I really hope that he finds another job soon. I have taken care of this for you on your account so that starting in December you will be at the $19 support amount. We are happy to help and are just glad that we are able to work with you in your situation.

Hello!
Much like everyone else, my finances are really tight right now. I'm a full-time student and working as much as I can, but it's not quite cutting it. I really really really don't want to end my sponsorship. In the last letter I received he wrote, "When are you coming to visit?" Oh! It melted my heart!
Because of that, would I be able suspend my sponsorship and get the reduced rate for 6 months?

Lauren, although I don't know your exact situation, being in college myself I definitely understand how difficult it can be financially at times. We truly value the sacrifice your making in supporting Jorge and blessing his life and we want to do everything possible to help you maintain your relationship with him. I have updated your account today so that your support is current through the end of November. In December, your rate will be temporarily reduced to $19 for 6 months. Good luck with your classes and enjoy writing to Jorge! :)

Hi Paul, I am very sorry to hear that you're struggling financially right now. I know how difficult that can be and I appreciate you wanting to continue your support of Lewin. We value the relationship that you are building with your boy and we would be more than happy to help you out while you get back on your feet! Please forgive me as I don't know your specific situation, but we do have a couple of options. We would be happy to cover your support for 3 months and we could also reduce your rate temporarily to $19 for up to 6 months. Please let me know if either/both of these options would assist you and I can update your account at that time.

Help with sponsorship.

My husband and I have been sponsoring two kids for a while now, but we are recently dealing with some financial struggles.  We don't want to stop sponsorship, but need to do something.  I have read some other posts on this site where sponsorships have been covered for a short time and then decreased; this would help tremendously!  How can I go about doing this?

Carrie, we are so glad that we can help you during this time! I am so sorry to hear that your family is struggling but we are so humbled by your sacrifice and desire to continue with your children despite the circumstances. We are happy to cover three months of support for you. Beginning in December, your rate for both of your children will be reduced down to $19 each for six months. I pray that your situation improves and that your relationship with Luis and Lebene would only continue to grow! :)

Hello, I am also having some financial difficulties. I have had to pay for school because I cannot apply for financial aid and recently had to fix my car since it broke down on me, among other things. I would like to continue to sponsor my child but at the time I am running very low on money and I am hoping to get a full time job soon. Please let me know what are my options at this time, thank you.

Hi. My income has temporarily decreased, and I am falling behind on bills and tithing. I really can't afford to continue sponsoring Celeste right now, let alone send presents for her birthday and Christmas. Will she still get presents if I don't send money? Also can I put my donations on hold for a few months, but still continue to communicate with her? I have sponsored her for a few years now, and really cherish our relationship. Thank You.

Debbie, I am so humbled by your desire to continue the relationship with your girl despite the hardship you're currently experiencing. I am sorry to hear you are going through this but praise God for His faithfulness and that this situation is temporary for you!

We are happy to help you out during this time and I have updated your account so that your next automatic withdrawal will not pull until December 15, 2014. Compassion will cover your support for September, October, and November. I hope that this helps and please let us know if your situation has not improved by December and we can re evaluate at that point.

Although your child only receives gifts such as family, birthday, and general child gifts, when you send them to her; I want to encourage you that your child will receive a gift this Christmas through our Christmas Program.  Celeste will be told that the gift she receives is from you. Celeste is not aware of the financial circumstances and will still receive benefits from the project as normal, so you are welcome to continue sending her your love and encouragement through letters. :)

Hello, I was just reading about some financial assistance options. We will be beginning braces for my daughter. I would like to keep our compassion child, but for the next 24 months I need to make a few extra cuts in the budget to make sure my daughter is taken care of. While we are beginning payments for that, would I be able to take advantage of the assistance you have offered to others?

Hi Jonathan! I'm so glad to see you here! I know that significant dental work can be expensive and especially orthodontics. We regrettably cannot help for as long as twenty-four months. However, we could lower your support amount to $19 for twelve months if that would help you to keep the relationship that you have with your sponsored child. Please let me know if this would help and I will take care of it for you.

Jonathan, I'm so glad that we were able to work with you in this specific situation. I have taken care of this for you so that you will be at the $19 support amount starting in September. We will cover the additional amount to make sure your sponsored child receives the same support for the next twelve months. As a reminder, please continue to send encouraging letters to your sponsored child during this time as each letter makes a huge difference! If you ever feel that you are unable to commit to writing regular letters to your child, please let us know as we have several volunteers who have the time and would love to encourage your child in your place. Please let us know if we can help in any other way.

Hello there.
It absolutely breaks my heart to say this, but I'm behind on my payments and I'm not sure I'll be able to cover them. Like many others already said, I started a new semester of school in another town over, and the cost of buying a car and other things has taken up more of my savings than I had anticipated. I'm also paying my own way and bills are stacking up. I really hesitated on even mentioning anything because I've been disappointed, and slightly ashamed,  that I don't have enough to cover the funds I already owe. I've seen people mention the three-month plan, but what about for funds that are already owed? I wish I could do more but I have so little left over from everything.
I can't tell you how much this breaks my heart to even be writing this reply. But unfortunately, I'm not sure how I can make the payments. Is there anyway to get help for the backlogged payments as well as the upcoming ones?

Hi Krysta! I know that it can be tough to admit sometimes, but I am so glad you let us know that you were struggling. We're happy to help! We really want to help you to be able to keep the relationship that you have with your sponsored children if possible. I have covered the missed months for you to bring your support through the end of September. Please let us know how this next semester goes and if you need additional assistance. That is super exciting that you are starting another semester at a new school. What are you studying?

Hello Cindy, I certainly understand that job transitions can be difficult and I am sorry to hear about your husbands pay cut. I pray that the Lord would open doors for your family and provide for you during this time. I am so encouraged by your kind and loving heart for wanting to continue supporting Sophia despite the circumstances you're currently facing. Your support for Sophia was already current up through September and so I have updated your account so that it is current through the end of the year. The next automatic withdrawal will not pull until January 10, 2015. I hope that this gives your family some time to adjust and catch up. Please let me know if your situation has not improved by January and we are happy to work with you.

Hello. Unfortunately, I am one of many who needs some help with my monthly payment. I've been praying about this for quite some time and I DO NOT want to give up my sponsored child but I'm really struggling financially right now. I thought my only option was to give him up and that was a hard pill to have to swallow. I made a commitment to that little boy, one that I take very seriously. That being said, is there any way you can help me out the same way you helped out the others? Also, is there anyway you can send me a paper bill, instead of direct debit? Thank you for your time and patience with me.

Tera, thank you so much for your vulnerability as I know it can be difficult to admit needing help. I am glad to see that our sponsor's find this a safe community and that you feel you can share your circumstances with us because we are here to serve you and want to help. My heart goes out to you as we never want to see our sponsor's struggling. With your permission, I would be happy to add you to our prayer list so that employees here at Compassion's headquarters can be standing with you in prayer during this difficult time.

You have been such a blessing to Kwesi-edu for almost 3 years now and we would be happy to help you! I have stopped your automatic donations effective today. You will begin to receive monthly statements in the mail which print from our office on the 20th of each month. I have updated your account today so that your support is covered for the months of September through November. This is our gift to you and you don't need to worry about reimbursing this amount later on. Beginning in December, your rate will be reduced to $19 per month for 6 months.

I pray that your situation improves quickly and that the Lord would provide for you during this time and overwhelm you with joy that can only come from Him:). I certainly hope this helps you out but if things have not improved as expected when June rolls around, please let us know and we will re evaluate your situation at that time.

I'm also having a really hard time affording my sponsorship currently. I was hoping to be able to visit meybelin soon but I've come across a pretty serious, dangerous situation with my roommate and have to move. I've been struggling to make ends meet lately because I'm a waitress and work has been so slow. I mean paying rent a month late kind if slow. I really don't want to lose my sponsorship as it's important to me. I've already had to decrease my expenses by foregoing a phone for several months. I wish I could catch up with my past due payments so I do not lose meybelin but I don't see how I will be able to do that any time soon. Do I have any options for being able to pay smaller amounts at a time to catch up so I don't lose her? I'm praying things will turn around soon as I have secured a second job but just the last few months have been so extremely stressful and moving next week is proving to be very expensive.

My husband just lost his job and I am on medical leave because I had a bone marrow transplant.  I do not want to give up my kids I am supporting, because I love them so much and have such a connection with them.  Is there a way you could work with us and we could pay less for a little while?  I feel horrible for asking, but we just need to be very careful with money until my husband can find another job.  Thanks, Laura

Laura, my heart goes out to you and your husband right now as it sounds like you are going through a tough season. Please don't feel bad for reaching out to us as we want you to feel comfortable coming to us for support! When I read your post, it made me think of the story in Matthew 6:26. We serve such a faithful God and I pray that you both would experience his warm embrace during this time!

Thank you so much for your sacrifice for these children and desire to continue your relationship with them. Compassion would be happy to reduce your rate to $19 per child for 6 months. Don't worry about support for this month as I have updated your account so that you're current through the end of September. Your rate will be reduced beginning in October and will resume back to the $38 rate in April of 2015. I hope you're recovering quickly and that your husband finds employment soon! Please let me know if your situation has not changed by April and we can re evaluate at that time.

Compassion would be willing to cover the months missed for Fredrick and bring both of your children current through the end of November. Beginning in December, we could reduce your rate to $19 for up to 6 months. If your situation changes before the 6 months are up, you can let us know and we are happy to update your account. Please let me know if either or both of these options would help you maintain your sponsorship and I will process your request at that time.

Hi, I am currently in a tough situation regarding finances as well. Unfortunately, college loans have started coming in and I am still unable to find a job. I'm living off of my savings right now to pay my rent and other expenses, but I just am not able to pay the $38 monthly anymore. I don't want to cancel my sponsorship, but it would be such a blessing if I could just suspend it for the time being.

Christina, I had a friend recently go through the same situation and so my heart goes out to you. I pray that God would overwhelm you with his peace and open doors for job opportunities to come flooding in!

I am so humbled by your sacrifice and and desire to continue supporting Athanase and we are more than happy to help you out. I have stopped your automatic donations effective today. I have updated your account so that your support is current through the end of November. Hopefully this will give you time to find a job and put some back into your savings as well. If your situation has not changed by December, please let us know and we can work with you further and do what we can to help you maintain the relationship you have built with Athanase.

Hi E Marie! We are happy to help for a time so that you can continue the relationship that you have started with your child. For example, we could cover your support for three months and lower your support amount to $19 for six months. Depending on the situation, if it is going to be longer than nine months we may recommend canceling and coming back at a later time when things are more stable. Regrettably, I was unable to locate your account from your name and your email address. Please post your child's ID number here and I would be happy to help you with whatever you need at this point.

Hello again E Marie! I am so happy that this option will help you while you get back on your feet. I have updated your account today so that your missed months are covered as well as this months support. This is our gift to you and you don't need to worry about reimbursing Compassion. Beginning in October, your rate will be temporarily reduced to $19 and will be at this rate for 6 months. I pray that your situation improves during this time. Please let us know if we can help you further!

I am struggling at this time and need some help. I do not want to cancel at this time but will need to prior to June due to my job being cut.
Could I please get the help for 3 months and then the $19 a month until June. Also could you please cancel my sponsorship by June and find a new sponsor for Kevin. This causes me deep sadness and I have prayed for a happier outcome. God Bless and Thank you

Karen, I am so sorry that you have experienced a cutback in your job :(. It saddens me as well to hear you will need to end your sponsorship of Kevin in a few months as I know this must have been a difficult decision. I have processed your request today and have updated your account to be current through November. Beginning in December, your rate will be reduced to $19 for 6 months.

Regrettably, due to our computer system, we are unable to process future cancellations. Please contact us again when you are ready to end your sponsorship. I pray that your situation improves before June and you are able to continue supporting Kevin. If not, let us know and we will place him back up for sponsorship at that time. We do have other funds you can donate towards that still greatly help the children we support that may fit better in your budget! You are welcome to read more about these funds here. God bless you!

Megan, I am so sorry to hear that you are in such a bind right now and had to make this difficult decision :(. We would be more than happy to work with you however, and help you out for a time. We have options available to help our sponsor's who are experiencing short term financial difficulties and Compassion would be willing to cover your support for 3 months and reduce your rate temporarily to $19 for up to 6 months. During this time, you would still be welcome to send letters and your child will continue to receive benefits from the center he or she attends.

Regrettably, I am unable to locate your account by just your name and email address. Would you be able to post your child reference number here so that I can access it? Please let me know if this option would assist you while you get back on your feet and help you maintain the relationship you have with your child. If not, I understand and will make your child available for another sponsor at that time.

Hi Emily. It would be wonderful to try and work with helping being covered for 3 months and then at 19$ For 6 month to see if things look better in the next 9 months. I love my child. She is so precious. Her reference number is PE3230738. Nahomi looked like one of my old youth leaders children.

Good morning, Megan! I am so excited to know that we are able to help you for the next few months! I have updated your account today and the next withdrawal on your account will not be until January of 2015 at the reduced rate. I pray that your situation improves over the next several months and please let us know if it doesn't so that we can re evaluate your sponsorship. You are a blessing to sweet Nahomi and please know that you may continue writing her during this time!

Hi again, Emma! I am so glad that we are able to help you out during this transition season in your life. I have updated your account today to reflect the changes we discussed. If your situation improves sooner than expected, you're certainly welcome to let us know and we can increase your rate back up to the $38 before August of 2015 if you are able. Thank you so much for continuing to pour out your love on Hypolite during this time and I know he will love to continue building this relationship with you through letters!

Hi Lana! Thank you so much for contacting us! We are so blessed to be able to do this for our sponsor's and we would be more than happy to cover the next two months for you. Regrettably, your support is set to pull on the 20th of each month and has already withdrawn for October. I have requested that this be refunded back into your account. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused with us being out of the office over the weekend. I have updated your account today so that diego's support will then be covered for October and November. The next withdrawal will not be until December. Please let me know if your situation has not changed by then and we can re evaluate at that time. God bless you!
