Still waiting and still nothing!!!

I have been patiently waiting for an update on the correspondence meeting that was referred to on here http://blog.compassion.com/a-sponsors... as well as several other places.

I STILL have not received anything at all from my kids. Even more disturbing is that I was informed by Kees Boer that the Bolivian sponsor letters (not sure about the other countries) are being held and gathered until there are two months worth and then they are given to the kids to respond to. In a huge batch. So, if I write every week, my poor child will be hit with eight letters all at once to respond to. THAT WOULD OVERWHELM ME LET ALONE A LITTLE KID! It has been stated over and over that the kids have the chance to write as often as they want, but if they are being handed all the letters at one time, then this is not true. That is a lot to expect a little kid to do.

So:

What was determined at the meeting in regards to all the issues that the sponsors are facing?

Are the letters being gathered and handed to the children in a gob instead of as they are received?

Why have I STILL not heard from either of my children?

Hi Marci. I have been active in the conversation on OC you are referring to. I asked for everyone's feedback on the correspondence process and followed up with a few more questions we had after the meeting. We are closely examining this process and the concerns that were posted. As this covers over one million children and almost as many sponsors, it can take a little while to discuss. I hope to have something together for you next week. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

I have not heard of the letters being gathered and held. However, I do know that the letters are held at the country office until a representative from the project can pickup the letters. This is not a new process.

It looks like we processed a letter from your child in Bolivia on April 3 and one from Arthur on April 13. You should receive these letters in a few weeks.

I think it's unrealistic to expect a completely smooth transition into a new system of letter writing. Compassion deserves the benefit of the doubt, they have always been upfront and forthcoming about everything they are doing before/after the new changes were implemented. I am sure it will take more than a week to iron out all the problems that may be occurring. They know now that there are concerns/questions and I am confident that when they have answers for us they will give them to us. As always, it is not about us. It is about these kids getting the love/education and support needed to become self-sufficient adults who love the Lord and that will still be the case while Compassion works through the new system of letter writing with all of these countries. I pray that ALL of us sponsors have patience and mercy toward the people who serve these little ones.

KristenH: According to Shaina the transition for both of my boys to the new system isn't due to happen until June or July, so the expectations for a "completely smooth transition" haven't even come into play yet. My correspondence difficulties have been an ongoing issue for me and also for my sister and it has already been "more than a week"....it's been six months for Arthur and four months for Gadiel and I think my sister's issue lasted for a year and a half (it may have been longer)...and we WERE patient. If it was only a month or two I would agree with you on being unrealistic, but it has been waaaaay over that and until we started raising a fuss on public forums we were being ignored....so, in regards to giving Compassion the benefit of the doubt...I'm not so sure about that. In the beginning I would have whole heartedly agreed with you, but now neither one of us is so sure.

This isn't only about letters...I'm currently waiting to find out what was purchased in November & December with the $250 I sent each child...but unless you have been following my posts, you wouldn't know any of this. I've already decided not to send the yearly $300 family gift to my Brazilian boy until I find out just what is happening with the birthday and Christmas money. I usually send that in March or April. I usually receive notice within two months of what is purchased for my Bolivian child....but it's been four months, which is why I am concerned.

I thank you for taking the time to remind me that it's not about us, because I OBVIOUSLY thought it WAS. Wow! Surprise! I didn't know there were children involved. I DO KNOW why I sponsor these boys and I love my kids with all my heart which is why I scrimp and save to do everything for their families that I can. They both have single mothers and a little brother and they need help. I am always encouraging my children to study as hard as they can and I've assured them that when they go to university I will be helping them. You don't have to tell me that it's about the children. These kids mean the world to me.

Dear Marci,
It is great that you care so much for these children and their little families... and also for giving them these generous gifts.
I just wanted to tell you about my experience in giving money gifts... I takes 2-3 months for the money to arrive and 2-3 months for them to (sometimes) take pictures and write back...
I sent 6 money gifts last December and I received a feedback from 3 children yet:
1st one 2-3 month later (that is fast!)
2nd one 3 months later
3rd one 4 months later
I am confident that I will receive the other 3 answers soon.
But I undestand that you are worried and that you just want that your children receive the help that you want them to receive.
You will see... soon you will receive an answer :)
God bless you

Thank you! It helps to know that there are so many others who are still waiting! I actually probably wouldn't have been this worried if it wasn't for Gadiel's being so late. Seriously...I may be spoiled but I normally hear from him almost once a month...and there's been nothing since Christmas. I'm just worried. Arthur has always taken forever to let me know he's received it and even then the answer is vague ("clothes, toys, food") but * at least I know he got it *....I'll try and be patient and quit worrying....so much. :)

Marci, I apologize that my response offended you. It was not my intention. It is hard to read tone and if I've mistaken your posts here and on OC then I do apologize. I think Pina gave very good advice and I pray that all of your concerns will be answered soon.

I'm sorry, too....I guess I've heard too many times that it's "not about us" and I jumped all over you. I thought you were being like the other "snarky mean" people on here. (You wouldn't think there would be any of those, but I've seen several and I get defensive.) You obviously aren't a snarky mean person...and I'm sorry! It IS hard to read tone on here and if it helps, I'm usually a very happy go lucky, cheerful, the glass is always FULL kinda girl....which is why I'm so distressed over all this.

BUT...I DID FIND A TEMPORARY CURE FOR MY NO LETTER BLUES! I've been trying to find a nice Hallmark card to send to my boys...and I'm looking for the ones that play songs. I've been looking for MONTHS...and finding nothing suitable. Well, I knew you could order cards on the Hallmark website, but I DIDN'T KNOW that you can make a card from scratch!!! You can choose the song, photographs from your computer, and write whatever you like on it! I'm very excited...I've been working on one for Arthur for about 2 hours now....I keep changing my mind. I'm adjusting the pictures in Picnik and putting borders on them in PowerPoint and saving them as a new picture...and it's turning out wonderful...!!!! So, if I'm lucky, I'm going to end up with an awesome card to send to Arthur to thank him for being such a good big brother to Alex and encourage him to keep doing what he's doing. I chose the song, "I'll be there for you" and the two pictures are of him and his brother hugging. So, even though I'm not hearing from them, that doesn't mean that they aren't hearing from me! :)

Again....sorry for snapping at you....forgive me?

Lizzie! Make sure you go here and pick up the coupon...it saved me $4 and some odd cents! You have to spend $20 before you can use it, though! I bought a card for each of my kids and then a Mother's Day card for my mum with my baby pics in it!!!!
