Switch children before notification

My family wanted to sponsor a child from DR at an event but we were unable to find a DR child there so we chose one from Central America.
I see many children on your website from the Dominican and I just can't shake this calling of helping a child there, but we can't afford 2 kids.
The tough feeling is whether the packet child has been told or will be told he is sponsored and then taking that away. I know you and God will take care of him but not sure I can pull the rug out like that.
The Event was 5 days ago. Is that enough time to cancel the first child before he is told and choose a new child?

The ladies at Compassion will have to answer your question about this specific child. But I do know when sponsoring from packets (Even at a Compassion Experience which is RUN by Compassion) it takes longer to process the packets. In just 5 days it is possible Compassion themselves has not fully processed the information. Regardless, though, if you are that drawn to a child in the Dominican Republic, I'd be afraid you'd end up resenting this child because they aren't the child you really want.  So it is VERY early -- early enough the sponsorship could have just had a "hiccup" And I'd go ahead and switch to the child God is calling you to Sponsor.

(And I say this as one who volunteered at a Compassion event Friday night Dec 6. I hope nothing I did encouraged someone to sponsor there against what their own conscience was telling them they needed to do.)

Hi, iamagoodbug. Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your desire to sponsor a child! I understand where you are coming from, and we can certainly take care of helping you sponsor whatever child you feel called to help. Sadly, we are unable to proactively stop a sponsorship before it has begun. When we receive the completed child packets, it's an automatic process from there and it can't be stopped. However, if you contact us when you receive a notice from Compassion saying your account has been set up, then we can cancel the sponsorship you signed up for a the event and sign you up with a new child.

I wish I could guarantee that we would cancel the sponsorship soon enough and that the child you initially chose to sponsor would not be notified that you had signed up to sponsor them, but sadly, I can't guarantee anything. :( If you do want to sponsor a different child and feel like you would be more fulfilled doing so, then that is absolutely your choice, and we are glad to honor your request either way. Please let us know how you'd like to proceed.
