I'm a new to Compassion as a sponsor. I am wondering if there is a way to have a template or a list of phrases translated for our children in their language. I tried to translate Happy Birthday into Rwandan with an online translation tool, but I know those aren't really reliable (and I don't really have a way to double check it, I don't know anything about Rwandan!). I would love to know simple phrases such as Happy Birthday, Jesus Loves You, other common sentiments and encouragements etc. to make my own cards and coloring sheets for my sponsored child. I think sending them in their language would be supportive of their education and comforting to see when they read our letters. It could be done by a specific center or country and then the sponsors of those children can use the resource. Just thinking out loud. Thank you so much for all you do!!!

Hi Erin! I love this idea and although we currently do not have this available for our sponsors, someday in the future this may definitely be a possibility! I have passed this idea along. :)  I do want to encourage you that each word on every card, letter, coloring page, and drawing, that you send to your child, is translated by our field staff in country so that your child is able to read it. Because your child will receive both copies (original and translated)
from you, it also helps them to learn English! :) I totally understand you wanting to encourage your child's language though and writing small phrases in their language should not be a problem if you wish to do this. You are right that these online translation tools are not necessarily the most accurate but for smaller phrases, they will be pretty close and remember that they are translated in country also so what you write will be confirmed once it gets in country. Thank you for sharing your thoughts because we love to hear ideas from our sponsor's on ways we can improve our ministry and enhance the relationship you have with your children!

Thank you for your reply, Emily! May I volunteer to draft some of these and have help getting them translated through Compassion? Of course they would be subject to Compassion's approval, but free to be used by sponsors. :) Thank you so much!

Hello again Erin! :) Regrettably, this is not something that we are prioritizing and going forward with at this time. I love your idea and you are more than welcome to create some templates for other sponsor's to use, and post them to your blog, or even the Correspondence Facebook group. I would be happy to send you an invite to this page if you would like so that you are able to post ideas for other sponsors!

Deb, have you checked your spam folder to see if it possibly went there? Hopefully there is just a delay and you receive it soon! Please let us know if you do not get the email within the next 24 hours and we will look into adding you a different way.

Hi Lea! I have sent you the invitation email for the page also. Once you click the link to accept the invitation, you will have access to the group! :)

Hi Deb! I am so sorry that it has been so difficult getting you added to this page.  I am not sure why you aren't receiving the email we sent you. I even tried to send it again. If you still haven't received it by this morning, we are going to have to manually add you. Would you please email us at socialmedia@us.ci.org with your first and last name as it appears on Facebook and your sponsor number? I was unable to find you on Facebook with just your email address. Thanks for your patience, we will be sure to get you added one way or another. ;)
