Things that would enhance the sponsorship experience

1) Have child photos updated every year (instead of every-other year).

2) Take a photo of the child with his or her family (and give some information on siblings...names & ages, if possible).

3) Take short videos of the child projects (or do one child project per country/region) to give sponsors an idea of the child's experience there.

These are just some ideas I had that would really enhance the sponsorship experience and help me to feel closer to my child. I realize they might be too hard to implement, but I wanted to share them!

I would like to add something to your list- a first letter with the child packet that comes in the mail. Like annually, children who don't have sponsors can write a first letter and it can be translated and mailed to the GMC. Then when someone sponsors a child, the letter could be mailed out with the info child packet. I don't know if this would work or not :)

Hi Lizzie! That's another great idea! Compassion put into place something similar just recently. You may have heard about the New Correspondence Guidelines as of July 2012. One of the new guidelines was that children who don't have sponsors will write a first letter and it will be sent to the country office. The letter will be translated and kept on file for up to a year. As soon as that child gets a sponsor, the letter will be sent to the GMC and then sent to the new sponsor. This cuts down the time that it takes for that first letter to be sent by at least a month.

That's cool. I knew about the new correspondent guidelines but missed that part :) Is that implemented in all countries/projects? I have two new correspondent girls from November and I am dying to get their first letters! They are from ME and HA. Just curious :) Thanks!!

These guidelines are supposed to be implemented in all countries/projects however some countries are still struggling with putting the new guidelines in place. Hopefully, we will have them fully implemented soon.

Hi susan, I just wanted to suggest an idea that goes along with number 3 above. I see that some children's profile has a short video over to the top right corner of the page. It would be great if compassion can use that spot or add an extra tab next to country information with a CDC video tour. I think this could be easy to implement since the same video will apply for all children attending the same CDC :)

I like that idea too, Luis!

One thing I had thought of was, when a child gets an extra photo taken (just because or because of a gift), it would be great if a digital copy of that was kept. Then if the photo got lost in mailing (it has happened to a couple sponsors I know) it could be e-mailed to the sponsor. And if that sponsor drops the child, the new sponsor could have the blessing of extra or family photos! :)
