Time spent at the Compassion center problem

I recently found out through a Compassion update on my sponsor child that she only spends 6 hours a week at the compassion center. I thought the charity was based around the center and I just can’t imagine what could get accomplished in roughly one hour a day! Now I’m questioning why the sponsorship fee is so high.

Hi Alexia! We realize that Compassion’s sponsorship amount of $38 per month is higher than some other organizations. However, we find that this amount is necessary to provide the complete, holistic child development program to the children in Compassion's program. Not only do we provide for basic needs such as food, clothing, and medical care, but we also provide for the children’s educational, emotional, and spiritual development. Please be assured that we are committed to carefully managing our costs in order to provide the most effective and meaningful programs possible. I hope this addresses some of your concerns!

Yes but how much are they learning if they are only in the center for 6 hours a week? That was my main issue that made me question the cost.

Alexia,

I completely understand your concern. However, much of what Compassion is able to do is not just based in the center. The children mostly go to the center for extra tutoring for what they are already learning if they attend school and for meals and spiritual development. The program is not designed for them to be at the center full time. The program is designed to be supplemental of schooling and or work for some children. The fee is based to cover the costs of meals, medical care, educational help for books or uniforms if needed, ect.
