Tracking status on field inquires?

Would it be possible to email the sponsor when CI begins a field inquiry, or cc the sponsor if it is done electronically? That way, the sponsor would have a record of when the inquiry was initiated (especially important if the inquiry was the result of a phone call) and would be able to track how long it had been. Sometimes if you call or fax in something, you have a feeling that you are in "limbo" as far as knowing what is being done with your question/request. Thanks!
