Hello,
I recently learned that the young lady I’ve been sponsoring since 2013 was suddenly taken out of the Compassion program and today, I just learned that I was reassigned to a new child back in November! As you can imagine, I was a little startled by this, although I moved a few times recently and could have missed a letter about this. I was wondering if you could help me with a few things. First, is there any more that you can tell me about my first sponsored child, Lulu Julius Longoje, and if she is okay? The letter I did receive was pretty vague about her situation and led me to be concerned about her well-being. Not sure if this is possible, but I thought I’d ask. The second question is about my current new sponsorship. I’m going through a season of pretty big life changes and need to reconsider my financial situation. It’s been a really incredible to be a small part of the Compassion International community and work, but I’m feeling the need to step back and reconsider where I’m called to invest right now. As much as I would love to continue sponsoring this new little one, Theresia Msafiri (Child ID: TZ027400077) I think I need to allow another sponsor to have the opportunity to build a relationship with her. I definitely may be able to sponsor again sometime in the future, but for now, I’ll need to end my sponsorship (ID #: 01813020).Would you be able to help me with that too?

Thank so much for your help with these two things and for all that you do with Compassion.

Grace and peace,

Kate O’Donnell

Hi Kate! I am so sorry for the confusion with Lulu no longer being in the program and now having Theresia on your account instead. Yes, we do send a few letters when a child leaves the program to let you know of the situation and to offer a new child's sponsorship to you. If we don't hear back from you within 5 weeks, the child does automatically stay on your account and officially becomes your sponsored child. With moving a few times in the last year, I completely understand that you may not have received all of that information! Lulu left the program because she hadn't attended the activities for two months. When we see children start missing activities, the project staff does visit the child at home and tries to encourage them to continue returning to the center so that they can receive the benefits of the program. It does work for many kids, but there are times where we just aren't able to convince the child or the child's family to let the child return. I'm not sure exactly what kept Lulu from attending the program, but it could have had to do with her family needing her to help earn a living at home based on her age. I do know that your sponsorship allowed the Gospel to be shared with Lulu's family members! What a blessing! Regrettably, Compassion doesn't keep record of how children are doing after they leave our program, but I would just encourage you to keep praying that she is doing well and that God blesses her future. As you've requested, I have put Theresia back up for sponsorship today. I completely understanding needing to take a step back and rearranging finances if needed! If you'd like to sponsor again in the future, we would be honored to partner with you at that point :). Let me know if you have any further questions!
