THANK YOU for the awesome new templates online, and for including the ability to send pictures! As another idea, I would love to be able to "see" somehow in my account where letters are between my kids and I. For example if they're in translation, etc. Thanks!

You are very welcome. We are very excited about the new letter writing templates and the picture sending option as well. That is a great idea that you presented. We appreciate your feedback and we will certainly consider recommendations for future enhancements.

Thank you so much for writing your children as it is so important to them. It lets them know that someone across the world cares for them and is thinking about them. It is such an important aspect of sponsorship.

Truly wonderful application... I have spoken with more that one Sponsor that credits this application for enabling them to write to their child more often. Excellent work!

It seems that sponsors on the Canadian site can find out if there are letters on the way to them. Even then they don't know how long it will take, but at least they know they're coming. I think that would be helpful, especially since I am waiting to hear from a child who hasn't written in many months.

I feel the same way! I love being able to write to my child online and to be able to send her photos online. The only problem is I wrote to her in October, sent her a birthday gift and a large family christmas gift and have not heard a word from her. I would like to know if she receives my emails or how long it takes for her to receive them. I would hope she gets them much faster than a letter? For me the email is much better! I am better at e-mailing than writing!

I'm sorry you're frustrated, Sara. It takes 2-3 months for your sponsored child to receive your letters and gifts. Emailing your letter instead of mailing it only takes off about one week of mailing time. If you wrote to her in October and sent a gift, you may expect to hear back from her by April. She should let you know what was purchased with your gift in her letter.

Hi Shaina, Thank you for this good answer. I just sent a letter via the template option and gifts (family and birthday). Sadly due to my laziness (sigh, yes selfishness too) my sponsored child will not receive it in time for their birthday. Is it a good idea to write another letter saying that they could be expecting a gift in the next few months?

No, I don't think you should. If you were to write another letter now, it would probably arrive after the other letter and gifts, which may be a little confusing. :)

It would be wonderful of there was a visual "dashboard" available for sponsors when they first login to the OurCompassion website. The visual graphic could show a simple process flow to illustrate where a letter was in the process (coming from a child, or going to a child). This would also help to reduce costs as sponsors now have to call into Compassion, to ask someone in Donor Services whether a letter is in transit for them, or has been received and is being processed.

Recently I called Compassion to give a birthday gift to one of my correspondence children. As always, the person I spoke with was pleasant and helpful. At the end of the call I asked if I had any letters coming to me. I was overjoyed to hear that I did, and two were from a child I had been waiting a long time to hear from (I even did an inquiry). Even though I haven't received the letters yet, I have been on Cloud 9 knowing that they are on their way. As sponsors we would have so many more "Cloud 9" days if there was a way to know that letters are on their way. Just knowing that I have letters coming (from 3 of my kids!) has fanned the flames of sponsorship and motivated me to begin new mailings for my kids. As sponsors, we can get in "sponsorship slumps" and offering us the hope of letters on their way can give us great encouragement. I really hope you can figure out a way to make this possible for us. Thanks!

It says this has been implemented at the top, but I can't find it available on my account. Has it been implemented or is that a mistake? Thanks!

I think that it would be great if we had the letter tracking capabilities in the US like they have in Canada. Every time the letters arrive and get scanned you could get a message that says a letter was just received in the office!

I know that the sponsors through Compassion Canada have a place on their accounts where they can check and see if they have any letters from their children on the way.

Is there any way we could implement something like this on the US site?

Hi Debbie! Six weeks is actually pretty good for delivery of a letter!! Some places take 3months or longer! Here are a couple of links that better explain the many steps letters take between us and our kids:

Hope that helps!! :)

I actually was thinking about that today. We are now able to send online letters but it would be amazing to know dates and where they are, all the process to get a better comunication with our children!

I would also love to see something like this. I sponsored a child in my son's name who is the same age as he is (5). He is very excited about writing and receiving letters, but it is a long, long time between letters from our child. If we could see where we are in the process (our letter to him still in transit, his letter to us on the way), it might help my son (and us) feel more connected. We pray for our child every night, but there is something special about connecting through letters.

This is such a PERFECT idea. It would help motivate me to write more and it would save compassion money because I would not call/e-mail so often. I really hope this is put into place!!

I love COMPASSION!! The kids I sponsor are awesome! The idea proposed is amazing! The templates added and having the ability to email my kids is such a blessing. However, I think it would be so great to receive the letters to me sent through email. I just received a letter yesterday and it was written a month ago. These letters are so special to me and would still love to get the hard copy, but in order to keep a fluid conversation I think it would be beneficial to have communication through online as well..

Is this ever going to be considered? Or can CI just put the kibosh on it publically, so we don't keep hoping and waiting?

I might be wrong, but I don't *THINK* it's necessarily "tracked" at every step, because when I have called CI in Colorado, they SEEM to only have visibility once it hits a mailroom within their facility. Maybe each facility tracks when they receive and pass it on, but maybe it's not tracked in the grand scheme of things over the entire journey...?

Gotcha. Thanks for the discussion.
I think most people would appreciate just knowing whether or not the child actually received the letter. I know I don't mind starting with baby steps! lol

You're welcome, and I agree :) That'd be a great place to start...It'd really help you plan things like b'day and christmas cards if you knew that "this kid" gets your stuff in 6 wks, "this one" in 10 wks, etc. I have 8 kids total in 8 countries (incl. correspondent kids) and the turnaround is different on ALL of them, LOL! Have a good one :)

That's a REALLY good point! CI, are you watching? ;) I have five in five different countries, but three are recent additions, so I have no idea how long it will take for them to receive my letter and then write back. Just that simple "yes they got it" really *would* be helpful. EIght kids...eight countries...God bless you!! You must be incredibly organized! LOL

I've been meaning to ask my students to write the date on the letters they send. Then I could compare that to when the letters arrive, and start to get a sense of timing. I've also considered asking them to let me know what date they received the letter, but that just starts to get silly. If I can estimate it one direction, it'd probably be a decent estimate for the other.

How long have you been sponsoring him? If this is a new sponsorship and you haven't received your first letter after 4 months, you can call Compassion and ask that an inquiry be done. If it is not the first letter you are waiting on, you'll have to wait 6 months to ask for an inquiry. This is all assuming that you have been writing your child.

As I understand it, the kids are only required to write to us twice a year, unless we write to them. So, as long as you are writing to your child regularly, you should be hearing back from him regularly. (I write each of my kids once a month; I usually receive a letter from each one of them every 2 to 3 months).

I hope that helps!

Hi Michele! I'm so sorry to hear that you're not getting your child's letters. :( It looks like we've sent several letters to you from your sponsored child. However, they would have had to travel from India to the US and then to South Africa. Please email us at ciinfo@us.ci.org so that we can verify that we have the correct address for you.
