I would like to know what areas my sponsered child’s family are in need of so that I may send a monetary gift to help meet their needs. Examples: does their house need a roof? Do they need medical care? Do they need livestock, classes, or supplies to become self sufficient and better their incomes? My child is somewhat young and her letters are “template style” so I usually do not get my questions answered. Is there a way to speak directly to the Compassion center she is attending so that they might find out for me? Thank you!
Also, besides sending gift to her and her family—-is there a way to slso send gives to her specific center to help the program locally?

Good morning Sara,
Thank you so much for your kind heart to want to bless your child and their family and even their Compassion center! Please know that blessing them in this way is so appreciated!
First off, as much as we would love to be able to help you with knowing exactly what your child's family needs, there is just no way for Compassion to know this kind of thing for each of the families we support. Rather than us inquiring, we would ask that you ask in your next child letter. Because you have noticed that your child really doesn't answer your questions, we would ask that you try numbering your questions and also highlight these questions. This will help draw the tutors see these questions and help draw their attention to them when replying to your letters.
Secondly, we do want you to know a little more information on how these gifts work. You may give two child gifts each year in the amount of $10-$100, and you may send gifts to the family of $25 to $1,000 (not to exceed $1,000 each year). The local Compassion staff will meet with the family when the gift is delivered to help them decide how the money should be spent and guide them in using the money wisely. With that said, if you do receive a response from the staff saying that they needed a roof for example, you can send a gift with a note that you would like them to use the funds for a new roof. However, when the money arrives it is up to the family to decide how to use the funds, which may be different than what you suggested. We do leave it up to the family to decide to ensure they receive exactly what they need. Please be aware that Compassion will utilize 10% of your individual child-gift donation for the ministry's administration and program delivery costs of the gift. You will receive a thank you letter, approximately six months from when the gift was given, to let you know what was purchased. Also, if you happen to send a gift of $60 or more, the family will send you a picture of what was purchased!
Lastly, if you would like to make a donation to your child's project we would be happy to process that for you. You can give that donation by giving us a call at 1-800-336-7676. We are available to serve you Monday through Friday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., MT, or you may respond with the amount you would like to give and we can process that gift for you. Please know that if we make this donation for you, we will need to use your credit card. If you would like to use your checking account, please call us and we can process that for you.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions! :)
