I am homeschooled sophomore. My family started sponsoring a girl about 2 years ago. Since then, my dad became a Compassion advocate at our church and spoken on Compassion Sunday. I started sponsoring a child 5 months ago after Compassion Sunday when I decided God was calling my to use some of the money I made in this way. Since then I have been so blessed through sponsoring Nanaama (Lilian) from Ghana. I have really grown compassionate about this ministry and am holding the Release3 awareness at my church (I made my first announcement....it was nerve racking, but everyone said I was "such a public speaker!"). However, our church is rather small (<100 official members) and many, many of them sponsor children already and can't take on more. I think that our church has pretty much reached the maximum it can for sponsorship.
I have decided to do a fundraiser as I train for a big race (I'm a long distance runner as well). It will start at the beginning of November and last to the end of February. I'm super excited and have so many plans swirling in my head that I can hardly stop thinking and planning).
I also aspire to become an orthopedist and something that has been on my heart is short term medical trips. I was telling my dad that "if in 13 years Compassion doesn't have a medical mission trip program for doctors, I'm going to start it!".
I was wondering if there was any other way I can get involved with Compassion right now that I don't know about (volunteering, sponsoring, etc.). I want so much to make a difference and "do hard things" as Alex and Brett Harris say.
