I just got an email thanking me for becoming a sponsor. The child is not the one we have a picture of from when we signed up agreeing to sponsor. What happened to Rose? We included pictures of us in the intro packet to her and have been praying for her. Did she get them? Why aren't we marched with her? Her picture is on our wall. Now we have a different girl. Is this common?

Barbara, I am so very sorry for any confusion regarding the child information that you received in the mail recently Each child's packet that is at a particular event has an "expiration" date.  This means that if we do not receive sponsorship information by that date the child's information may go out to another event.  Each child is available to only one event at a time in order to avoid duplicate sponsorships. We did received your information about wanting to sponsor Rose.  However, it was received after the expiration date for that event.  Her information has now been given to another event so she is not available for you to sponsor at this time. Again, I apologize for the disappointment you might feel as your family has been praying for and anticipating the sponsorship of Rose.

You have a couple of options at this point.  The first is that we have sent you information on a child that is similar to Rose for you to sponsor. The second option is that you may wait to see if Rose is sponsored at her current event.  The expiration date of that event is January 9, 2015.  We would not be able to tell before that time if she has been sponsored or not.  You would be welcome to call us January 9th or any date shortly thereafter.  January 12th is the next business day after the event closes. If you wish to sponsor Narcy, we will keep her on your account and you may begin writing to her. Please let us know if you would rather go forward with the second option and I will remove Narcy from your account and make her available for another sponsor at this time.

I don't understand what happened. I handed in my commitment to sponsor while the event was going on at my church. So I have to wait and see if anyone sponsors her or not. Her picture has been on our wall for a while. Why not just assign her to me? We feel somewhat attached to her.

Barbara, please accept my sincere apologies as it sounds like the Lord put a special place in your heart for this precious girl. I think what might have happened is the information was mailed back to our office late or the packet might have gotten stuck at the post office and delayed it from being delivered on time. This is certainly not an error on your part and I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience it has caused.

I have been working back and forth all day with our department that consigns children to specific events in attempt to take Rose off of the event that she was taken to a few weeks ago. We are still trying to see if this is a possibility as the event has already happened and she may be in the process of being sponsored by someone else. Thank you so much for your patience as I see if there is anything we can do to put this child on your account. I will be sure to let you know what I find out.

Another question. The girl we were paired with, Narcy... Was she told she has a sponsor? And that it us us? I've been thinking about the other side of this mess.

William, it takes anywhere between a few weeks to a month for a child to be notified that they have been sponsored.
