I have been sponsoring a child from India for years and now I am getting a letter from a child in Africa. What happened the the child I sponsored in India? Why did I not get any information that my sponsored child was being changed?

Myra, I am another sponsor and I lost a child in India, too.  India has made Compassion leave because of sharing the Good News of Jesus with the kids.  I had other kids so I transferred my credit of sponsorship to one of my other kids.

If the child they gave you is not someone you wish to sponsor you could choose a different child.  I have been sponsoring for over 15 years so I told them a long time ago that if a child of mine leaves the program for any reason I do not want them to assign a child to me, I want to pick the child myself. I did keep the first child they assigned to me 14 years ago, he is 18 now.  But I have never had it happen again and I have had many children over the years, some graduated, some moved and I chose my own replacement child.

Someone from Compassion will contact you on Monday I am sure, however, if you know what you want to do you could send an email to socialmedia@compassion.com

Be sure and reference your sponsor number in the email and you can let them know what you want to do.  You probably have six to eight months of credit for another child.

If you are on Facebook, there are private Compassion groups you can join.  One I really enjoy is Compassion Sponsors and Correspondents Facebook Forum.  If you write to the gals at that email above you can request to be added to the group!  Hope to see you there!

Myra, I am so sorry for the confusion. We had been trying to contact you for over a year but it sounds like you did not receive any of the communications. I am so sorry for that. As others have explained, Compassion had to close our offices in India due to government restrictions. While the build up was over about nine months, we officially closed our offices in March. This is why you received another child in Africa to sponsor. Please do let us know your wishes from here on out. You are welcome to continue sponsoring another child or select another child to sponsor or discontinue all together if you choose.

Myra, I have cancelled your sponsorship of Victorine from your account. You should receive a confirmation letter in the mail within 1-2 weeks. If in the future you would like to sponsor another child, we would be blessed to partner with you again. Have a blessed day!
