I would assume that it's the equivalent of a child gift here, which is simply an extra gift of money to be used for your child. I've had kids buy clothing, livestock, food, mattress, blankets, etc with a child gift.
Here we have the option to designate a gift as a child, birthday or family gift. I'd assume it was similar through AU office.

Where did you read about development gifts? The nearest thing I could find to that phrasing is "child development center" gifts, such as in this post:
https://support.compassion.com/compas...
From what I understand, such a gift would probably be used for something to help the whole (e.g., supplies, upgrades, repairs, special event, etc.) rather than one child.

I've seen other info about the different kinds of monetary gifts, amounts, etc., but can't seem to find it today :(

Hi Rhonda,

I'm from AU too. A Child Development gift will go to your sponsor child's Child Development Centre https://compassionau.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/64
