Trying to figure out what is going on with compassion uganda- I got a vague letter that the office there is not up to compassion standards or something like that. It said that my child would no longer get the money I send- anyone else get this?

Well that doesn't sound good. :( I haven't gotten anything like that. Is the problem specific to just one center? My child attends UG 838.

Rachel, this is not a country-wide suspension. Only one project is going through this, which is not UG838.

Hi Katie. I am so sorry you received that letter in the mail :(. Compassion Uganda as a whole is actually doing well, but Margret's project has been put on a suspension because some child protection issues have been revealed there. Our ministry has an unwavering commitment to protect each child in our program and we do not tolerate any violation of our child protection policy. I cannot give more specific details about the actual situation than that, needing to maintain the confidentiality of the individuals involved and legal proceedings. When an issue like this occurs, we first ensure the long term well-being of our children. Our Uganda staff will work with those directly affected to help them heal and offer support. We are currently working to restore this project to an active status and would appreciate your prayers for each sponsor, child, and staff member. At this time, we are holding funds from going to the project as the focus has to be on this issue and to demonstrate how serious it is. If you decide to continue sending in monthly donations during this time, they will be sent to our general sponsorship fund to help other children in our program. While Margret won't benefit from the funds while this is going on, another child living in poverty will. If you'd rather pause your donations until this situation has been resolved, we can absolutely do that for you as well. Our projected resolution date is set for the end of June right now. If more time is needed, we will notify you of the change. Just let me know what you would like to do and I can take care of it for you. Also, I would highly encourage you to keep providing your love and support to Margret through letters in this scenario. Even if she is not directly affected, your support would mean a lot to her. Please let me know if you have further questions. You can also email us at socialmedia@compassion.com.

Katie, thank you so much for your care and concern for your child. We are continuing to provide additional monitoring and training to the staff at Margret's student center and are expecting a resolution by the end of June. Just as soon as we have a resolution with this center, we will notify you of the outcome.

I am really happy to hear that Compassion is on top of checking and auditing each Child Development Center to make sure there is no fraud or abuse.  Checks and balances seem to be effective.  Thanks Compassion--- it's bound to happen in any charitable organization.  Thank you for the transparency and effective management.
