Good morning. We recently gave a gift of $250.00 ($200 to family and $50 to our child) and received a nice letter, photo, and summary of what was purchased. In the letter it said that $90.00 was received by our child/family to apply toward their supplies/needs. We were wondering how that works. Does Compassion keep a portion of gift amounts, or does the difference between the gift amount and what was received by the family reflect international exchange rates? We were very pleased to see the amount of goods our sponsored family purchased with the gift and the Center leaders do a fantastic job with helping our child write letters and keeping us connected. We just wanted to understand a little better how the gift system works. Thanks so much and God bless!

Rest assured that 90% of extra gifts goes to the family, and as you've seen, they aim to document it well. The employees who maintain this forum will likely ask you to email a scan to them so that they can look into it. The amounts are probably written in local currency, though depending on the country those tend to become much bigger numbers, not smaller! (Eg 9000 or 90,000)

Thank you so much. We appreciate your quick response. We'd be happy to scan/email our copy of that correspondence if it helps. Again, all staff/center staff have been great to work with and we've been blessed by our experience with Compassion.  Thanks again!

I'm actually just another sponsor like you! Sorry for the confusion. I've been blessed by my experience as well. The staff will be back after the weekend and will take care of you.

Hi Sherry! Welcome to the Compassion family! Thank you so much for supporting Joseph, Favour, and Naomi! How kind and thoughtful of you and your husband that you already sent a family gift to Joseph!

I'm so glad Jennifer was able to explain a little bit of how our gift process works to you, over the weekend. The majority of your gift like Jennifer mentioned, goes directly to your child and their family. The remaining small percentage is used exclusively for administration costs including gift wiring, tracking, delivery, transportation, receipting, and acknowledgement that the gift was received. I'm so glad you received a picture and thank you letter letting you know how your gift was used! :) I'm happy to take a look over your letter and see what that $90 might have been referring to whether it was written in your child's currency, or if we need to research this further and send an inquiry to our staff :). Please send us a scanned copy of your child's letter to us at socialmedia@compassion.com and we'll take a look at it!

Thank you so much for blessing Joseph and his family in such a tangible way! You're such a blessing to them!
