We have sponsored our child Rosylne for 13+ years (Child ID: KE080900014) in Kenya. She is now 20 and will turn 21 this year at the end of July. I believe in the past we were told she would "graduate" the program at this time, and that our sponsorship of her would stop.  Is this true?

If so, is there an exit package that we get?  Are we told of her future plans? Are we able to give a final gift, and if so, when should we send that by to ensure it gets to her before graduating the Compassion program?

We want to ensure that we are able to help usher her into this next phase of life, so if we send her a financial gift does she get 100% of the money, and is there a cap on the amount we can send?

We're very excited for her, but also nervous since we have no idea what happens to here after this.  Thanks for your time.

God Bless

Hi Joshua! Thank you so much for committing to sponsoring Rosylne through her time in the program. I know you have made a significant difference in her life that will never be forgotten! Kenya has a max age limit of 22 years old, which means that Rosylne will most likely be in the program until she turns 22 years old. From the information I see in our system, she is planning on staying that long :). When she does graduate from the program, Compassion will send you a letter to let you know of her completion. We often do record information like the child's future plans and some of the most beneficial things your sponsorship has done for her, which you are welcome to inquire about through this forum or by phone after you receive that letter. That information isn't included in the letter itself. You may also have the opportunity to receive a final letter from Rosylne or a project worker who knows her personally that may give more details of her future plans. Yes, you will be able to send a final gift and a final letter. That gift and letter will need to be sent to Compassion no more than three months after her graduation, but you can send that gift several months before she graduates from the program as well so that she receives it in time for her graduation. We estimate that she will graduate around July 2019, but that date could change if she is finishing up part of the program and needs a little extra time to complete it. Graduation gifts can be anywhere between $10 and $2,000. Compassion does utilize 10% of gifts to cover processing and delivery costs, whether they are graduation gifts or just general child/family gifts. Please do let me know if you have more questions!

Thank you Sarah.  This is great info!  Also, I saw on another thread that there may be a form we can complete to provide our info to Rosylne after her graduation, is that true?  If so, how do we get that?  Thanks!

Hi Joshua! If you have sponsored a child for more than 2 years and have written at least one letter in the past 12 months, then you may be able to have continued correspondence. When you fill out the continuing correspondence waiver, you are allowing Compassion to give your contact information to your child after they have graduated. However, we cannot submit this request any later than 6 months after the child has graduated and can be submitted no more than 60 days in advance of the planned completion date. Since Rosylne is estimated to complete the program in July of 2019, it is still too early to submit this request. Please do let us know if you would like to receive this waiver to fill out and turn in when we have reached at least 60 days before Rosylne is estimated to graduate :).
