We encourage you to send your birthday gift and letter about two months prior to your child's birthday. This will allow enough transit time for it to reach your sponsored child around their birthday. However, if it is closer to your child's birthday, no need to fret. Go ahead and send your letter and gift and they will still receive it- just a little late. No worries though, your sponsored child will be so excited no matter when your gift and letter reaches them.

If i want to send my sponsor kid a birthday card and a financial gift, will he receive both at same time or he will receive one before the other? If I would like to to receive the his birthday gift and card at the same time, can I send the birthday card by mail and pay the financial gift online?
thank you.
thank you.

Hey Janet! Your child will not receive the financial gift and birthday card at the same time. You are welcome to give the birthday gift online, but it will still not be given at the same time as the birthday card. These two items travel separately to your child.

I understand the two items travel separately, but if both are received in plenty of time before the child's birthday, wouldn't Compassion at least try to give near the birthday date? I wouldn't want to send a check and then they give it a month early...

Unfortunately, we aren't able to hold the gift or card until your child's birthday. However, no matter when they receive them, they will be delighted!

Is it okay to mention the $ gift in the letter to the child? I don't want it to seem like I a bragging or anything but I would like her to know that I send her a family gift since I value both her and her family?Â

Hey Stephanie! Â That's so great that you want to bless your child's entire family with a financial gift. Â It should be fine to mention in a letter that you are sending a financial gift. Â However, I have shied away from it myself, mostly because, as mentioned above, the letter and gift will not likely arrive at exactly the same and I haven't wanted the money to arrive first and then the child assume that another gift is coming when the letter arrives later or something like that. Â Usually I bring up giving the gift to bless the child/family when I receive a thank-you letter stating what was bought. Â That way I can concretely say "I'm so happy to have been able to bless you and your family with a goat because I care about you all" or whatever and the child will know what gift I'm referring to.

Oh okay, that is an excellent suggestion! I will definitely talk about it when I receive the thank you letter instead to avoid any possible confusion.Â

I was told recently by Compassion that he takes almost 6 months for the family to receive a money gift. I was very disappointed and do not understand why the money sits in the bank for so long...

It can take up to 6 months to receive a thank you letter for a gift sent. It does not take 6 months for them to receive.

Hopefully they will receive it. It has been 4 months now. I just was not ready for this.Â

Hi Veronique,Â
I am so sorry for the frustration this is causing you. Please know that I see you gave this very sweet and generous gift back in June, and therefore I am sure that by now your kiddo and their family would have already received this blessing. As Sarah mentioned, it typically takes about six months to receive a thank you letter and picture for your gift, which means you should receive that pretty soon! Thank you again for blessing your child and their family with this gift!Â

How long in advance do I need to send my child a birthday gift so that it will be received by them on/close to their birthday?.
I know that it takes time to process. I want the receiving date to be relatively close to his birthday.

Hi Vikki! That is so sweet of you to want to bless your child in such a tangible way! Regrettably, it takes two to three months for monetary gifts and letters to be sent. I would recommend sending a gift and a letter as soon as possible. Your child will receive them late, but she will be so blessed that you thought of her. :)

Elaine,
Congrats on your new sponsorship! I would recommend that you send your birthday and Christmas gifts to your child in September or October. It can take 2 to 3 months for the financial gifts to reach your child. Even if it reaches them after their birthday or Christmas, they will still be told that the gift was for their birthday or Christmas! You will also get a note from the child saying what they used to gift money for. Also, 100% of the birthday or Christmas gift goes to the child.
