Why can't I get through to a representative when I call Compassion's 800 number? I can only access the automated system.

My compassion child is from India and since the India program is shutting down I received a letter stating that I had the option of ending my sponsorship, but allowing the money already donated to go to the Critical Needs Fund. I would like to do this. The letter I received stated that I should call Compassion in order to this. I called the 800 number (as instructed on the letter) and tried to find a way to make this change, but none of the settings fit what I was trying to do. I tried reaching a representative to talk to them directly, but the call system didn't give me that option, hence this post.

Jessica, I am so sorry you have not been able to get through to us. Our number is 800-336-7676 and we are available Monday through Friday from 8AM to 4:30PM Mountain Time. Regrettably, we have been receiving record volumes of phone calls and emails these last few days. That said, I am happy to help you with whatever you need on your account. How would you like this money applied - to a new child, a general fund, or refunded to you? Also, I was regrettably unable to locate your account from your name and email address. Please post your child's ID number or your sponsor number here so that we can further assist you.

I think the problem I was running into was that I called a little after 4:30 MT since I thought the call center was open until 5 or 5:30. Maybe the option to "press 0" to speak with a representative was disabled by the time I called in order to take care of the volume of calls already received.

I would love your help on my account though! I would like to have the money already donated (which was originally for my girl in India) to be applied to your Critical Needs fund, or whatever other fund is the most urgent for you.

However, I would like to stop further sponsorship at this time in order to focus on some local ministries for the next few months. My church has strong ties with Compassion, so likely I will continue sponsorship in the future, but I want to stop for now.
