The gift cateloge is a separate ministry and things cost different in different places (they decide where needs it most and gives it there, knowing the prices and stuff before they price the cateloge I'm sure.  it's not connected with our sponsored kids).  However, all Compassion kids do receive a Christmas gift you can donate to using the Christmas Gift Fund and your child will receive sometihng from that for Christmas.  Also you are welcome to send a child financial gift to your child or a family one to him and his whole family to purchase an extra gift if you want.  You are even allowed to suggest what they use that money for, but they don't HAVE to use it for that.   It's just a suggestion (I find most do follow those suggestions but it might turn out they already had that item or they had a desperate need of something else so it got used differently)

Catneielson, thank you for blessing your child with your love and sponsorship and for wanting to bless him and his family with gifts. I am a sponsor too and the Compassion reps who monitor this forum will officially answer you too. Gift money is used to buy what is needed most by the children and their families. Someone from the project will help them decide how to spend the money that best meets their needs. They may have no means for caring for livestock and such. They know better than we what they need the most. You can suggest something to buy, but ultimately it is up to the family and project. My kiddos usually get food and clothing. Occasionally I have had a correspondent child say they have gotten livestock with the gift money. Hope this helps! God bless!

Hi Catnielson! Thank you so much for the compassion you have for your precious Maxwell and your desire to bless him with a special gift. Gifts through the catalog have a profound impact on a family in need or even an entire community. The gifts provided through the Gifts of Compassion Catalog look first to provide for children and families with the greatest need. Often times, the centers have put in requests for individual families in their communities who are in great need of those items, and Compassion does their best to supply those families with the gifts that will benefit them. As Heather and Teresa have also mentioned, Maxwell may not be in need of one of the items you would select from the catalog. The beauty of sending a monetary gift to his family specifically, is that it is tailored to fit their exact needs, whatever they may be :).  We greatly appreciate your child sponsorship and your generosity in this vital outreach as well.
