Why did my direct payment stop?

I had a direct payment plan set up, ever since I started sponsoring my child 2 years ago, but for some reason this month it stopped working. I just got an email saying I need to update my information because Compassion was unable to process my most recent contribution, but I want to know why. I never got on and stopped the direct payment plan..this happened without my knowing or consent. Could I get an explanation please?

Hi Morgan! I'm sorry for the confusion this has caused. The reason we stopped your automatic donations is because your credit card declined when we tried to withdrawal your last donation. In case something was wrong with your card, we don't try to pull the donation again because we don't want you to be charged an overdraft fee from your bank. For your privacy and security, we're not told why the card declines. However, often times it is because we need a new expiration date for your card. Yours currently says it expires in May so this might be the case. If your card was updated with a new date, just reply here and I'm happy to update it for you and restart your donations. If you have a new card, you can update it through your My Account online or call our office at (800) 336-7676 and one of our representatives would be happy to take care of you.
