Hi, Natalie! I am just a sponsor like you but may be able to help you out. We sponsors several and correspond with many more. Many times the home situation is anything but stable. My girl in Mexico has seen her dad come and go multiple times in the past 3 years and that really tears me up because she and her family desperately want him to come home and stay. Several of my kids have only one parent listed but they still spend time with the other parent too. Another issues I have encountered is step parents. There is generally no differentiation from biological and step parent. I even have a sponsor son who is an orphan being raised by his grandma and he calls her his mom. Compassion may be able to give you more information tomorrow, but these have been my experiences. God bless!

Hi Natalie! Are you talking about the most recent letter you received from Jose? I do see mention of his father, but it is because he is answering the question of who his family members are. Though his father is alive and does not live with Jose and the rest of the family, he is still Jose's father. I don't know what Jose's relationship with his father is like, but he is still part of the family and I think it was nice that Jose listed him on the letter. Not all of the children list family members who they do not live with.

I have a boy who lived with his mom when the information was taken on the form. But in his last letter he informed me he was living with his sister (Which I didn't even know he had since the Family size was 2. But I have another child whose Family size is 5 and has 4 siblings. I expect the youngest was not born yet when the information was filled out) Maybe she's grown up and out of the house and when Mom had to move away for work (he lives in a very isolated area), he went to live with the already-grown sister so he could stay in the Compassion center? I was just thankful to have one more small detail about his current home life so I know to pray for this sister who has taken on the job of raising her almost-teenage brother.

Our sponsor child, Megan from Bolivia who is 11 years old, lives with her mother and 2 younger sisters. However, in her introductory letter, she wrote her father's name is Elvis. I have a feeling though from her letters that although he is alive, he does not live with them. She has not stated this but she always asks me to pray for him.
