Your mailers seem over the top and very expensive. Most of the adults in Tanzania bring home $18 a month. I am paying $45 a month for Musa. I read what you told me that pays for but I know it does not cost that much. Plus I would like to know his nutritional needs and medical needs are being met on a daily basis. I don't need fancy mailers sent to me once a week either.

Hi Renee, welcome to the Compassion forums. I'm another sponsor like you and have had the privilege of sponsoring many children through the years.

You can look on Compassion website to see the percent of incoming monies that are used for salary, advertising, child centers, etc.

You can also look at charity navigator to see the ratings that Compassion receives - they're actually quite excellent.

I'm not sure why you're receiving so many fliers in the mail, I only receive a few each year.

Hi Renee! I'm sorry that we have been sending you too much mail. Compassion wants our sponsors to be informed about their child and Compassion's work around the globe. We want sponsors to have the tools needed to become advocates for children. We can certainly send less mail to you. Would you like only the mail pertaining specifically to Musa? We can stop sending mailings like volunteer opportunities and opportunities from our development department to help find new sponsors for children waiting for a sponsor. Please let me know what specific mail you would like to continue to receive and we will update your account for you. As Kristen mentioned, you can see the breakdown of how the ministry uses contributions here

Hi Renee, I have been sponsoring with Compassion for over 14 years and I don't pay the extra on most of my kid right now because it makes it too expensive.  I only pay it on one child.  The $7 extra goes in a pool of funds depending on which one you choose.  I chose HIV fund because I really want to help people in that area.  I used to do all my kids in Africa for that but can't afford it right now, hope to do again someday beyond one $7 fee.  Just keep in mind the $7 goes into a fund that meets special needs according to which fund you picked.  The $7 is optional, the $38 goes more specifically to helping your child in the center they attend.  I would encourage you to join the Facebook group, there are some extremely committed sponsors that we can all learn from (me especially).  They share some letters that they have written that you can use for your child and it is very helpful.  Hope to see you there!
