I will like to know if the family of the child wants to buy critters from gift funds, will they be provided proper training to house and care for them before getting the critters? Also, are Kuroiler Chickens available in Rukungiri market place for purchase? I will also like to know if my sponsored child's staying place is big enough to obtain critters for farming, is it possible to obtain this info or I have to ask the child in letter myself because the letter takes quite a long time to reach and same with reply from her. I like to help out her family with that as soon as possible and I also need to calculate the amount to send, so it will be just right.

Hi Hope! That's a fantastic question and thank you for wanting to prepare and equip your child and her family for success! If a child and their family choose to purchase livestock with a gift, we certainly want them to be equipped with the knowledge and resources to care for the animal so that the gift can be used to it's fullest benefit. Rest assured, our staff will ensure that the family knows how to care for the animal they choose to purchase and have the resources to house and feed it :).

Regrettably, the information you requested is outside of the parameters of what I'm able to ask our field staff as asking this information is like promising them that we'll purchase it. We don't want to place that kind of pressure on our sponsors or make any promises to the field. I cannot send inquiries to request what type of livestock a family needs or if they have the proper environment to house said livestock. However, I want to encourage you that this is part of the beauty of sending monetary gifts. When you send a monetary gift, our staff discusses the best option with the family and helps them to make a wise decision on how to use the gift. They will not purchase animals if they do not have the right environment and resources to house and care properly for the animal. Our staff will help your child and their family to purchase the most appropriate gift, and if it's an animal, the ones they choose will be culturally appropriate for the region terrain and climate and are purchased locally. As far as how much to send, you can view our list of generally how much livestock costs in Uganda.

I always suggest prayerfully considering what you choose to send to your child and the family. After praying about it, I trust that God will give you the wisdom and discernment of what the best gift will be to send them and I know he'll use it to bless them so tangibly and provide for them in such a great way :). You'll also receive a thank you letter around six months after you send your gift, letting you know how it was used! If it's over $60, you'll also receive a photo!
