Will I be given advanced notice before my child graduates to give a gift? Also, will we recieve anything special, picture or anything, from the graduation? Our Sergio is set to complete the program early next year. Thank you!

Hi Melissa! Yes, you'll have plenty of time to send a gift. We typically send out notices twelve months and six months prior to when a child is anticipated to complete our program. Then once he officially completes, we will notify you and you will have up to three months after that to send a letter and a gift if you would like. While we don't offer photos or certificates to sponsors when a child completes, you will be given some additional information about how Sergio did while he was in the program when he officially completes. Also, you are welcome to schedule a custom visit to attend the completion ceremony. If you would like to attend, please let us know two to three months prior to his anticipated completion date.

I just received notice that my child would graduate in January (letter date April13). Then I got a letter date April 25th, saying my child is accepted in to LDP. Then I noticed my sponsorship payment didn't go through for April. I called, and apparently my child is already in the LDP and so child sponsorship has ended. I can't afford to support her through the LDP, but do want to send her a graduation gift. How long do I have to send a gift? And has she already graduated and entered LDP or is this a transition as she switches? I would also love to continue contact with her, since I have sponsored her for 11 years.

Susan, according to my online account one of my sponsored children is scheduled to complete in November. I haven't received any notice about it--does that mean her estimated completion date has changed to later?

Hi tbmgvd! It looks like Juliet is still set to complete around November of this year. I'm so sorry that you did not receive the year prior completion notice. You will likely receive the six month notice very soon.

Rebekah, I'm so sorry for the confusion! It looks like we spoke with you a few weeks ago and have made your former sponsored child available for another sponsor in LDP so she is no longer on your account. She has already completed and moved on to LDP.

You are more than welcome to still send a final gift and letter though! We can guarantee delivery up until July (three months after she completed). To send a letter, please write a physical letter with her name and number and the words "Final Letter" at the top. You may enclose a check for a gift or call us at 800-336-7676 to process a gift. Please send the letter and/or gift to:

Thank you Susan for your speedy replies! I would like to make a suggestion if you don't mind sending it on; I too have wondered if we could continue contact with our sponsor children if they went on to the LDP, or as one has expressed interest in working as a teacher at their project. I know that we will not be able to sponsor our children through LDP if they went on and this is very difficult for us after so many years sacrifice on our part. That being said, I wish that as long as a child is involved with compassion they would have access to translators and could continue communication with their sponsors old and new if they move on to LDP. Thank you!

*make no mistake the sacrifice is 100% worth it and would do it again in a heartbeat, just the thought of them being still in the program but not able to communicate with them would be hard! :-)

Melissa, You may be aware that we can facilitate continuing correspondence once an adolescent has left our program, meaning that we would give your former sponsored child your direct contact information and you would communicate outside of Compassion. However,  the issue with an adult graduate of Compassion's program who is "still in the program" but not officially (in LDP, volunteering at the center, working for Compassion, etc.) is purely a logistics issue. The thing with LDP is that we may have a different sponsor supporting that child and sending them letters. We would have to completely change our system to allow multiple people to potentially write letters to that particular student. Also, we currently have over 1.4 million children in our sponsorship program alone. We process thousands of letters each week in our USA office alone. Overseeing the process of continued correspondence would be a very large undertaking and is simply not possible logistically right now.

Thanks for clarifying Susan! As hard as it is going to be to write a final letter I find a lot of comfort in the blog posts of the successful graduates. I am also excited about the development of the compassion alumni, maybe one day we can receive newsletters about graduating classes? :-) Either way love compassions work!

Susan, just curious, it looks like Sergio's completion date has been changed and will not be until 2019 now. Do you know why this could have changed? As always thank you!

Melissa, the maximum completion age recently changed from 20 to 22 years of age in Ecuador. He and his center staff may have decided that, in light of the increased maximum completion age, he may want to stay in the program longer to finish out his schooling and other program requirements.

Susan, I just wanted to check up on the situation, since we have not yet received any notice about Juliet's graduation (scheduled for November 1, less than 5 months away). Any idea why this might be? Thanks!

I received a letter saying my sponsored child is graduating, and I can't seem to find it. I was hoping to find a way to send a gift online, but I can't seem to find that. Am I missing something? Or can a new letter be sent? Thanks!!!

Hi Denise! While your child is still in the program, and it looks like your child is, you are welcome to send a child or family gift to them. Regrettably, graduation gifts must be made via check or by calling 800-336-7676. Please make checks out to Compassion International. Write "Final Gift" and his number in the memo line.

Hi Susan! I just wanted to check in about the graduation again. I think it's been two weeks since you said a notification about Juliet's graduation should come within two weeks. My online account still says that she is scheduled to graduate on November 1, now less than 4 months away! I received a beautiful letter from Juliet in the mail today, but still haven't heard anything about her graduating. Just wondering what's going on!

Hmm ... yes, that's the right address. What do you want to bet the letter will be in the mailbox tomorrow? (Please excuse the figure of speech; I don't actually want to bet!)  :)

I just checked with the mailroom and the new letter will be sent when our monthly letters are sent out on July 10. Again, I sincerely apologize for the delay and hope that you receive it very soon.
