i would love to sponsor a child but don't know if I can afford $38 a month. Would I be able to commit to $25.? I am on unemployment and on a debt consolidation program which is taken automatically out of my account biweekly. Also, if I choose to sponsor today, could I make automatic arrangements for it to be taken out of my account on the day of my choosing, beginning Feb.second?

I greatly appreciate your desire to help! Unfortunately, we are unable to offer a lower sponsorship rate. However, you are welcome to help and contribute in other ways. We have many funds that help children in our program beyond what is provided from sponsorship. Our medical fund helps care for emergency medical issues. Our clean water fund helps provide children and their families with clean water. You can view a list of needs here: http://www.compassion.com/donate-to-c...
You're welcome to contribute whatever you are able to to one of these funds.

You could become a child survival program sponsor as that cost $20/month. It is not one to one sponsorship like the child development program as it is sponsorship of a program to mothers and babies as a whole. Find out more here:

I think you could become a correspondent sponsor, where you write to a child whose financial sponsor is unable or doesn't desire to write. You would be able to send an occasional monetary gift for a birthday or such. I think this is possible. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Leslie: I believe you are correct! My boyfriend cannot afford sponsorship at this time, so I told him to be a correspondent sponsor. He signed up and was put on the list-they gave him an account- and then about a month and a half later he got assigned a little boy in Guatemala to correspond with! He has received one letter so far, and has sent him several! I think this is a great option!
