We got our welcome packet a few weeks ago but nothing else. Sent a few letters online but nothing. Is this normal?? I am seeing a lot of negativity and it is starting to worry me. Answers would be great. Thank you.

Hi, Jessica! Thank you for your support and for writing your sponsored child. I am a sponsor too, but can answer your questions. We sponsor 5 kiddos and correspond with many more kiddos. Your first letter will usually arrive by 4 months into sponsorship. These letters are usually introductory letters that may have been written prior to your sponsorship or before your letters arrive. Compassion has been working for about a year to improve the letter system so correspondence is quicker and more efficient. Unfortunately, there have been several problems with this system and they are still working on getting all the kinks out.

It can take a while for letters to travel between the projects and the country offices. It also takes a bit to develop a relationship with your child and for letters to start regularly flowing, but when it is so worth the time and effort! Our kids are such blessings to us and it is so rewarding to have them tell you how your letters are special to them or that they help the in some way. Please hang in there, if there is one thing I have learned in our years of sponsorship is that God uses sponsorship to teach us patience! God bless!

Jessica, we greatly appreciate the love and support that you are providing for Nshimyimana in Rwanda. Thank you so much for partnering with us! We are happy to answer any questions you have.

As Heather mentioned, it can take up to four months to receive the first letter from your child. It looks like you started on March 3 so you can expect that first letter by July 3. Nshimyimana is actually working on two letters to you as we speak and I trust that you will receive them real soon.

Please do let us know if there is any other way we can assist you.

Jessica, it is also important to remember that this forum is a portal for reporting issues; so it stands to reason that negative issues may outweigh positive reports. For every issue here there are many more sponsors who do not have any issues
