Why does it take so long for communication from our child?

I just received a letter template from my kids that is 5 months old. I realize that Compassion coordinates a phenomenal amount of kids. In this high tech world with digital communication, why does it take so long for communication? It is difficult to build a relationship or have a continuous communication five months at a time. We are always encouraged to write our kids. If they are only going to receive two letters a year, I will have to change my approach to writing. Maybe guess when the letter will arrive or be a little less personal.

Hi Paul! I am so sorry for the confusion! Is this the recent letter from Jeanpierre in Ecuador you are taking about? The letter from this sweet kiddo was actually written on August 4th, not April 8th. Most other countries around the world use a DD/MM/YY format instead of the MM/DD/YY format the USA uses. That being said, children are required to write to their sponsors twice per year whether they are receiving letters from their sponsors or not. All of our countries have a reciprocal writing system. This means that your child will write to you, every sixty days, after they receive a letter from you. If you write to your child consistently (at least once every two months), you may expect to receive letters about six times each year. Your sponsorships are fairly new and your kiddos are pretty young still. I would encourage you to be patient as they figure out how to write letters, a very foreign concept for most of our children, and to start writing to them frequently instead of waiting to receive a letter from them before writing again. It does take time for the correspondence between children and their sponsors to be come a natural, frequent rhythm, but it is so worth it in the end!

Thanks Sarah! That does clear a lot of confusion up. I should have remembered the global world we live in. I really want to be an encouragement to Jeanpaul, Jeanpierre and their mom. Thanks for being dedicated to the work of Compassion.
